EXCELLENT sampling of the TRUE Colombian cumbia.,
By A Customer
This review is from: Cumbia Cumbia 1: Colombian Cumbia Recordings (Audio CD)
This CD is a compilation of over thirty years of the best Colombian (the only and true cumbias) traditional cumbias. If you're looking for original work, this is the CD to get. I'm using the "Cumbia Sampuesina" in a choreography I've put together.

The best of yesteryear of cumbia colombiana,
This review is from: Cumbia Cumbia 1: Colombian Cumbia Recordings (Audio CD)
This cd is a gem. I purchased it many years ago well aware that the cd was full of old original cumbia songs but some of the greatest in my opinion and definitely well be cheerished by true fans of this unique genre. It has some of Colombia's finest groups who have perfected this rhythm and by listening to it really does take you to point in time that only most of us can imagine but I am sure holds beautiful memories for those who grew up in Colombia when these songs were popular. The only downfall of this cd is it's too short but it is a nice a compilation for those who are fans of authentic cumbia. You will certainly recognize classic songs such as: Tabaco y Ron, Amaneciendo, Se me perdio la cadenita, El pescador de Baru among others. This is a gem of a cd.

This review is from: Cumbia Cumbia 1: Colombian Cumbia Recordings (Audio CD)
This CD is HOT! You'll be up and dancing from the first song and won't sit until it's over. These selections span a 30 year timeline and feature Colombia's foremost artists. Each is a chart topper and remains popular today. Don't miss this one. BUY IT!

Cumbia quien le gusten mas que nadie,
By "fumiaki" (Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cumbia Cumbia 1: Colombian Cumbia Recordings (Audio CD)
This cumbia seems not only the dance music but also something like Colombian Blues. From sentimetal tone of voice, if you carefully listen to the lyrics, you can glimpse the life of rural working class Colombian. That's the essence of the cumbia. And that's what I like about this CD.

One of the best Cumbia collections,

My Cumbia collection includes over 50 CDs, including this CD (and the sequel). As far as one collection that gives a great representation of the musicians and sounds of Cumbia Colombiana, this is among the best. It has also been out of print for years, yet occasionally a used copy surfaces for a reasonable price. If that happens and you're interested, grab it while you can!The music is kind of old-fashioned - in a good way. No synthesizers, and it is not simply Rock in Spanish. Lots of big bands, horns, accordions, flutes, and a whole world of percussion. If you live in a city that has a large number of Colombians, Mexicanos, etc, you may be able to find cumbia collections covering similar ground behind the counter at groceries, or at shops that sell music (often with cell phones / services). A label to look for is Discos Fuentes, because they bought up the rights to most of the songs from the Golden Age of Cumbia (which this CD also represents). On the down side, there are only 12 tracks. Many Cumbia collections (the ones published by Discos Fuente, for example) have up to 20.

Good Commercial Cumbia,
This review is from: Cumbia Cumbia 1: Colombian Cumbia Recordings (Audio CD)
This is a good CD if you are looking for commercial Cumbia. The tunes are catchy, fun for dancing, and, as pointed out below, will bring back memories. This CD does not have any traditional Cumbia. For that I'd recommend artists like Totó la Momposina, Los Gaiteros de San Jacinto, or Petrona Martínez that play authentic Cumbias among other rhythms.
