Deliverance is joy. This is an excellent book with lessons of love woven into the stories of all the main characters. God prevails. God is still in the miracle working business. As you are engulfed into the pages of this novel, you will see the work of the devil defeated. If you are familiar with the work of Franklin White, you will agree that this is a great...

3.0 out of 5 stars Are most women that forgiving?
I must admit that the novel kept my attention and was a quick and interesting read. However, how many times can someone cheat and still be let back into a relationship? And what kind of woman marries someone just months after she caught her man cheating for the THIRD TIME? I don't know what goes on behind the doors of my married friends, but it would be difficult to...

5.0 out of 5 stars Spiritually Moving..., October 2, 1999

Franklin White has done it again!! A Cup of Love is absolutely moving! The way he mixed spiritual and "worldly" issues combined in this book could make a someone think twice. Once I started reading Cup of Love, I started feeling myself within the book. The issues between Vance and Artise is something I'm sure all can relate too. Oh, but let's not forget about Ethan. We all know someone like him. I didn't like his character too much in the beginning but when those babies died, I really felt for him. Even the issue's between Artise and her Mother was real. I think this book is especially important because it also leaves a spritual impact on those who believe. The bible verses, prayer quotes all kept us on our toes. I give all praise for Franklin White because not many authors can "flip" their writing styles like that. (compared to Fed Up With The Fanny.) I can't wait to see what he has lined up next...

Excellent...!

5.0 out of 5 stars Can't wait to see what's next!, September 19, 1999

This review is from: Cup of Love: A Novel (Hardcover)
WHAT A WONDERFUL READ! Franklin White in his novel took me back to so many conversations I've had with my girlfriends and situations we've all been through at one time or another. Mother/daughter, best friends and even trying to understand anothers sexual orientation without being disrespectful. The male characters commitment to GOD was also very refreshing and let me see how men fight within themselves to do the right thing by their mate. Cup of Love has it all- but the most surprising them to me is, I didn't know about Franklin's ability in writing passionate, relatable, thought provoking poetry. I see great things ahead for this author and highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Moving, Unpredictable, and Invigorating, September 6, 1999

This review is from: Cup of Love: A Novel (Hardcover)
I found Cup of Love by Franklin White to be a wonderfully well-written, engaging, and page turning follow-up to Fed Up With The Fanny. Right from the beginning Franklin White had me smiling, laughing, thinking, and reacting to the story he's written that involves many memorable and likable characters. The story simply takes you on a journey -- an almost cinematic-like journey - of love, loss, and restoration. I really enjoyed some of the character's insight, wisdom, and observations as they dealt with problems dealing with infidelity, life choices, etc. Cup of Love was also inspiring and made me ponder my own life and the way I view things. On another note, there are lots of twists and turns that I wasn't able to foresee (well, I did manage to guess one character's final behavior -- specifically, Vance's). Overall, expect Cup of Love to go beyond being a typical novel. It is an important and refreshing piece of work. Mr. White, if you're reading this, more, more, more!!!

And what kind of woman marries someone just months after she caught her man cheating for the THIRD TIME? I don't know what goes on behind the doors of my married friends, but it would be difficult to see anyone of them, myself included, put up with a cheating partner. Cup of Love was interesting, but definately fiction.

4.0 out of 5 stars A New Style for Franklin White, October 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Cup of Love: A Novel (Hardcover)
I enjoyed this book, but Franklin White really took me for a loop from his novel "Fed Up with The Fanny". I appreciated the themes and thought the entire concept of "Cup of Love" was beautiful. I just thought the book was a little preachy. I still managed to overlook that and grasp another entire view of relationships and the spiritual bond that is needed to sustain it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Will There Be a Fanny Part II, August 10, 2000

Having read Fed up with the Fanny, I could not wait to read Mr. White's new novel. I must admit I was a little dissappointed that it was not the same gritty believable characters as in Fanny but I suppose that would have been a tad redundant. I know this is a fiction novel but I had a hard time believing some of the story lines, they seemed a bit far fetched to me. What man could come home to the kids in the bathtub and not have to get counselling? How long can you act a fool at work and not get fired? All and all it was a decent story but I cannot wait for Fanny Part II. Franklin are you listening? My bookclub is waiting :-)

4.0 out of 5 stars Black Love & Support At It's Best!, May 22, 2000

(VINE VOICE)
This review is from: Cup of Love: A Novel (Hardcover)
Cup Of Love is a story of Black Love and the dynamics of Relationship. The story's main characters are Vance & Artise and Ethan & Tasha. Vance is the brother who seriously loves Artise but he has a slight problem with a wandering eye, and ended up in one two many affairs and got caught. Artise is the sister who stands by her man(Vance) and doesn't pass judgment because she knows the man upstairs will deal with Vance. Ethan is Vance's best friend who has commitment-phobia and after jilting his former girlfriend(Tasha) he now only dates WWK(women with kids) because he doesn't have to worry about falling in love with them. Tasha was Ethan's former girlfriend who moved on to a older man who she thought could provide her the love she needed.

I must admit that it took me a while to get into the storyline because it appeared to be so predictable...just another problematic relationship tale. However, was I ever in for a pleasant surprise as Mr. White was able to bring the story to life with a few smooth twists and adventures that included an unplanned pregnancy, political corruption, a very tragic and emotional incidence and some strange eroticism...all which kept you rapidly turning the pages to find out what was going to happen next.

Although preachy at times, I liked that Mr. White wanted to leave us with a positive outlook on black love and relationships. I especially liked the Stubbefields, an elderly AA couple who had been married over 60 years and who still shared a romantic relationship based on love, respect, compassion and passion! I also liked that Mr. White dealt with other relationships such as the mother-daughter relationship between Artise and her mom; the surrogate father/son relationship between Vance and the Stubbefields; the best friend/sister friend relationship with Artise and Tasha; and the surrogate mother/daughter relationship with Artise and Melba.

Cup of Love is a book about love, passion, understanding, forgiveness, and redemption and leaves you feeling good and believing that Love can conquer a multitude of sins.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable!, February 22, 2000
By
This review is from: Cup of Love: A Novel (Hardcover)
Although I found Mr. White's latest novel somewhat different than his first novel, I must admit, it was a good read. There was some love, some pain, some deception, some growth and much, much more. The characters are REAL and we all know at least one of them and can relate. Can't say who was my favorite character because they were all good in their own right. As for the story.......at times, it was so heart felt and the title (Cup of Love).....it is oh so fitting.

If you're looking for another Fed Up......grow a little with the author and enjoy this book just as much.

5.0 out of 5 stars Smooth, enjoyable read!, November 6, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Cup of Love: A Novel (Hardcover)
From beginning to end, this novel captured my attention as Franklin White added a Cup of Good Old-Fashioned Love with scandal, adversity and tragedy. The mix was well done, and the end result was deliciously sweet.

Cup of Love is well-written and enlightening. The drama interspersed with spirituality create a credible and interesting story of friends and family who learn that love conquers all!
