Do NOT buy this book..what a rip off. ($25 for 1/4" worth of NOTHING!) Mostly what you will get is basic common sense in running any business..that they took and TRIED to apply to the cupcake business. I am a pastry chef with experience in the field and I can tell you the numbers DO NOT and WILL NOT add up. I actually went back to see when it was published.. the costs were so below reality. What a pathetic book.. this publisher obviously just takes a basic business concept and TRIES to make it apply to a business they know NOTHING about to sell books. I seriously could have written a better one myself with more pertinent information for success. Buy a good business plan software and you'll get more out of it. Business Plan Pro has a great set up they walk you through. I was looking for more detail (marketing, bookkeeping, etc..) in this book... only to find it just SKIMS the surface in any area. Equiptment costs are a joke.. so UNREALISTIC! No contact info for suppliers, etc.. useless! If your curious..skim it through in a bookstore.. and see for yourself. Don't waste your money. Might be good for a kindergartener wanting to sell cupcakes instead of lemonade from their front yard.

This book was recommended to me by a retired executive with 30 years of experience. I used this book to write my business plan for my cupcake business that I run out of my home kitchen. I must admit, I did not know where to start when writing my business plan. This book helped me focus my thoughts and energy. The lessons in the book are specific for a cupcake company, especially the target market and products and services that I can offer. I downloaded the business templates and use them on a weekly basis. My compliments to the authors for not just putting together generic templates or example plans, but rather teaching the entrepreneur how to think.

I found this book to be extremely helpful. I especially liked the approach in which the different business plan sections are broken down and explained in detail. Also, the ability to directly communicate with the consultants at Upstart Business Consulting Group really added to the value of the book. Getting answers to my questions saved me the time I usually spend hunting around on the Internet for what a need. Definitely worth buying, especially for those who are new to starting a business.

I have read a lot of how-to business plan books and read a lot of business plans. This is BY FAR the best book available. It has the specific detail that is needed to write a high quality business plan. I imagine the only reason it has been criticized in reviews here is because you just cannot take it, rip off the binding, staple it together, and use it as your business plan. A good business plan takes a lot of effort. If you want a generic business plan, you can buy business plan software and print out a useless plan. If you want to make money (are willing to work), buy this book and use it as a guide to writing your plan. A must read book.
