5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for everyone January 17, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I would agree with the other reviewers. The author handled the subject matter wonderful and with humor and insight. I'm an overweight woman and I have the same thoughts as Darcy all the time. I had the perfect younger brother, though. The dialogue is wonderful and beautifully written. I still can't believe this book is free. I would have bought it even if there was a price attached to it.

I look forward to reading more from Mariah Jones.

3.0 out of 5 stars Fat Girl Fantasy January 19, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I am no size 2, but I guess I am thinking there should be more to a 327 pound, 5 foot 6 inch woman's story than she overcomes all of her insecurities and the bad memories of being harrassed her whole life because the hottest guy around falls for her. About 2/3s of the way through this book I started wondering if maybe Thorne didn't have a fat fetish. Once that popped in my head I couldn't take it seriously.

A very predictable story, a quick read, and while Darcy's brief adventures in weight loss (which were very, very brief) were entertaining there wasn't much substance to this book as a whole. It would have been better for Darcy and the story if this had been a story that chronicled her taking control of her life and eating habits and at the same time gaining the man of her dreams. I get the whole "he loved her for who she was not what she looked like" thing, but she was so totally unhappy being fat and then it turns out all she needed was a man.

I also found some of the details of her bakery business pretty unrealistic. It was like the author has been watching some "Cake Boss" episodes and thought it would make a good setting/plot device. No one comes in to order a wedding cake for that weekend. And if you are running a bakery where you are cranking out 19 wedding cakes in a few days you are gogin to need more help than a slow high school girl and your untrained sister.

PS there were formatting issues to the kindle edition that were quite annoying.

3.0 out of 5 stars A lot of potential, but... March 1, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
Nice premise, but this book could have used some editorial review and a few re-writes. It felt like a rough draft. Also, I wasn't buying most of the characters, especially Thorne. He was too perfect and said some legitimately cringe-worthy things. I did laugh out loud a few times at some of the situations and dialogue, however. For the most part, I was underwhelmed.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great nightcap!
This was sweet and satisfying. It was the perfect read to keep me interested but not weigh me down with numerous amounts of plots. I will be purchasing more from the author.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute, easy read
This was a sweet story, if not a bit unrealistic. There were some funny moments, but the author could have done so much more.

4.0 out of 5 stars Clever
Some laugh out loud moments.. A few in accuracies. Her weight and size don't match (no biggie) I found the story sweet and Darcy's guffaws funny. Quick fun read. Enjoy

4.0 out of 5 stars Quite funny
Yes, it's a funny book. Let's call it "a modern fairytale", more for girls than for boys maybe, but I (an aged boy) enjoyed it the same. Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Cutesy fluffy read
Unrealistic in many senses but a sweet short read to warm your cockles all the same. Enjoyable but more descriptive analogue would have been appreciated
