Book Description

February 6, 2003
Ceri D'Altroy's hero-worship of Oprah Winfrey is beginning to have serious repercussions. Bored with London life and writing yet another 'black is the new black' fashion feature, she's decided to take Oprah's advice and follow her heart's desire. Going back to college might not be everyone's dream but all Ceri's has ever wanted to do is teach...But though her professional life seems to be sorted, Ceri's personal life is still a no-go area. After six long, long, months without so much as a snog, she's given up hope of ever finding anyone who'll put up with her various idiosyncrasies. In fact just lately, her pent-up energies and frustrations seem to have been diverted into solving other people's romantic problems. Since arriving in Leeds she's reunited a happily uncoupled couple, encouraged her new flatmate to do something about his unrequited love and outed the closet relationship of two of her new colleagues. All this, in spite of her new life resolution to mind her own business. But is Ceri destined to always play Cupid? Or can she use some of her powers where they're needed most - to help herself?

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but not as good as her other books., March 18, 2011

This book was good. The story is very likable but there is no great plot or conflict that must be resolved. I wished the author dove into the main character's life more than the surrounding characters.

3.0 out of 5 stars A satisfying read, February 12, 2010

This review is from: Cupid Effect B (Paperback)
This is about Ceri, who just can't keep herself out of other people's business; strangers and colleagues are drawn to her, they tell her their secrets, and she listens even when she doesn't want to, she says what they need to hear, even as she screams something else in her mind.
Ceri and the supporting cast are likable characters, the situations are believable and the dialogue funny.
There are lots of little insights into human nature and about relationships, and watching the way people behave, often in contrast to how they feel, was interesting.
It was light fare but enjoyable and satisfying. I'd certainly read more of Koomson's books.

This author writes very good books. The Marshmellows For Breakfast book was also excellent. It made me want to read all of her books.
