A classic myth retold beautifully for generations to come,
This review is from: Cupid and Psyche (Hardcover)
This is a delightful book based on the myth of Cupid and Psyche. I bought the book because of the beautiful paintings by K.Y. Craft, but was surprised to also find it well written and entertaining to read. I am a collector of beautiful children's books though I am in my teens. I am proud to add this book to my collection waiting for my children. Take time to look at every detail in the writing and pictures. You are sure to read this book and over and over again and at times just look at the pictures. The paintings of K.Y. Craft fit perfectly with the writings of Charlotte Craft and add a mist over this beautiful story of jealously, beauty, tradgedy, and of course love.

Being a mother of two children...I buy lots of children's books. But also being an artist, I gravitate toward beautifully illustrated books. And this is one of the most beautifully illustrated books that i have ever come across. And because of this, I plan to track down other books with the same illustrator, Kinuko Craft. I love mythology and the story of Cupid and Psyche is one of my favorites. M. Charlotte Craft and Kinuko Craft deserve high praise for there superb work of Cupid and Psyche! Buy this book!!

I am an artist and collector of beautifully illustrated books. Not only is this book exquisite in its illustrations, it also gives a child a very comprehensive understanding of the mythological tale of Cupid and Psyche. I definitely recommend to anyone as a must.

Kinuko craft is the Queen of illustration in America. Possibly the world.
The book written by her daughter Charlotte is amazing. I bought this book for my grandchildren. This is a piece of art that I will Pass down to my great grandchildren. This book is a treasure. Buy it and treasure it. It should be in a frame not on a book shelf. Enjoy.

Beautiful book but not for age 4,

The School Library Journal says GRADES 5-8. The Amazon description says AGES 4-8. I would put this more in the former category. It's a beautiful story told in detail. There is really a lot of detail here. In addition, some of the story is rather heavy and serious, as when Psyche betrays Cupid and he warns her that "Love cannot live without trust." A bit heavy for a 4-year-old, I think. I would not recommend this for nursery, K or first grade. I agree with the other reviewers that it is a beautiful book but would save it for somewhat older kids.

This little table book is great. Especially for all of you greek mythology fans out there. I consider it a book tat is good enough reading for both young and old alike . Gives a different perspective on what we all think of Cupid.

Not many modern children's books have the beauty of traditional mythology or folklore, either in text or illustrations. This particular book is a refreshing change in the modern market. As an artist and writer, I find this work inspiring, and highly recommend it to anyone interested in the fantasy genre, or fairy tales and mythology. Classic tales should be introduced to new generations, and this type of book is perfect for that purpose.

Another fantastic book by the Craft duo!,
This review is from: Cupid and Psyche (Hardcover)
I did not know the story of Cupid and Psyche prior to reading this, and thus my enjoyment of the story was enhanced. I was pleasantly surprised by the detail of this book and the overall goodness of it. There were a few points that I felt took away, just a bit, from the overall "perfect-ness" of our protagonists:
*Cupid was obviously a mischief maker *Why did Psyche believe her sisters (though, I felt Craft managed this motive well what with the terrible prophecy the oracle had given her) *Why did Psyche become vain enough to feel the need to improve her beauty (though again, I must commend Craft for making this motive more about Psyche wanting to "freshen up," in essence, for Cupid. I was a tad disappointed there wasn't more follow-up on Psyche's "lesson" from this, but this is being incredibly picky of me!!) *And there is the question of if they love each other because they love each other, or because of Cupid's arrows, but it feels, at least, that it is a true love. I also wanted a bit more information on why Cupid wouldn't reveal himself to Psyche. This is more just me wanting more of a great story though, and not a critique really. And I thought it was great Cupid wanted Psyche to love him for himself, not what he appeared to be. Psyche's sisters are the typical "envious and evil" that we encounter in so many fairytales (and they do meet an unpleasant end. But, overall I really enjoyed the story! The illustrations are beautiful, as I'd expected them to be, and the way in which Craft incorporated the semi-transparent gods is tremendous! What really won me over was this line of Cupid's: "Love cannot live without trust." Any book that mentions the importance of trust in a relationship, especially if it's mentioned in a fairytale, earns extra points from me! Highly, highly, recommended!

Wonderful book. I found it in the library and decided I needed to own a copy. I use it to read from in my writing workshops on finding the mysteries and depths of life. The words and illustrations are as perfectly coupled as Psyche and Cupid themselves, offering the great beauty of mystery, love and the inward journey.
