5.0 out of 5 stars One of Judith Stafford's best novels!, February 28, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Cupid And The Vicar (Harlequin Regency Romance) (Paperback)
I very much like Judith Stafford and this surely is one of her best books. There are not really a main plot and a sub plot but rather two main plots which kind of melt into another. There is the lord, his sister Aurelia and their brother Anthony (who plays a minor role). Aurealia has been secretly in love with Marcus, the vicar, for years but thought he wouldn't love her. In return, Marcus loves her dearly but doesn't dare propose to Aurelia because he thinks he is not good enough for her. He wants to wait with his proposal until he can be sure that she has taken all other possibilities (men) into consideration. When Serena visits her brother Marcus, the two girls plot against Marcus in order that he admits his love for Aurelia. But the lord doesn't like Serena at first, so there are a lot of problems... A very captivating novel! Although the heroines are quite young (around 19) you can easily identify with them (Aurelia in my case, she is just lovely) and also feel compassion. And it's a quite nice happy ending. Read it and you'll love it!

3.0 out of 5 stars Double courtships, June 26, 2010
By
Flower Girl (MN, United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Cupid And The Vicar (Harlequin Regency Romance) (Paperback)
The other reviewer has already given the scenerio which I will not repeat here (by the way, heroines here were Serena and Cleopatra, not Aurelia, as mentioned in the review). I thought the plot was pretty good, it had two heroines interwoven into this love courtships. But I did not care for the writing very much, it was tedious and dragging, everything was just bland. Granted, two heroines had spirits, but heroes, especially the vicar, was just too passive to enjoy. This book, in general, was a decent book, but didn't quite do it for me.
