Cupidity. I laughed when I saw the title. Cupid and Stupidity all rolled into one and just in time for Valentine's day! "The DiMarcos must have one sick sense of humor." I thought to myself. Then I read the tag line, "50 stupid things people do for love *(*and how to avoid them)". Covering topics such as "Expecting another person to bring you hope, joy or peace," "Blending finances before marriage," and "Fearing the silence," the Hayley and Michael DiMarco show that they are not afraid to get down to the nitty gritty in their new book.
Broken into five sections, Cupidity is both easy to navigate and that is what makes it such a huge resource. My favorite (is it ok to say favorite even though it convicted me? Hmmmm.) act of cupidity (read: one that I am guilty of and willing to admit on my blog) is "not accepting his kills". The DiMarcos that since your husband no longer has to literally kill something to provide for you, he instead will bring you flowers or other acts of service. When I receive his roses with an exasperated, "You shouldn't have spent the money" he becomes depressed and exasperated at me. If instead I had accepted them with a smile and a kiss and an exuberant "Thank you!" my husband would have been reaffirmed in his ability to provide for me.
All in all, I give this book four stars. It took me a bit to get into it, but once I did, it was a quick and helpful read. It is also a book that I would put on the bookshelf to reference in the future!

The book is about learning what constitutes "Cupidity" in a relationship. According to the authors there are emotional, mental, physical, social and spiritual cupidity. From the first chapter "..acts of Cupidity aren't disastrous, and they are most often reversible. They're what some like to call opportunities to "fail forward." Every failure at love is just a chance for you to learn more about what not to do. And that's not just the case in dating; the first year of marriage is often full of close-quarters Cupidity." Cupidity is about the differences between a man and a woman and how each gender handles certain things like women wanting romance and a man wanting a soulmate.

Each chapter gives advice as to how to avoid these Cupidity challenges, aka stupid love, and to have the relationship with your significant other that you want . Along with the relationship advice on how to deal with the cupidity there is spiritual advice as well. A lot of quotes from the bible to help you on your way to changing your lives.

I found, for the most part, this book to be interesting. Did I disagree with some of it? Yes I did, I have been married to my husband for 27 years and together for 30. We raised four children together from the cradle and assisted them in flying from the nest. A marriage is a partnership and both genders are equal in my mind. The book states,as in the Bible, that a woman should honor and obey a man. I think that the man and woman should honor and obey each other. Again, my opinion.

This book was easy to read and uplifting in a way, but not a book that I would use in my life. Would I recommend it to others? Yes I would. There was some humor in it and like I said a lot of reference and quotes from the bible that that in itself helped me to understand the message that the authors were trying to tell the reader. Oh yes, I liked cover and the font is a maroon color instead of the usual black print....This book would make a great gift for the upcoming Valentine's Day!!!

This is a really funny and informative book that provides a biblical framework for dating and marriage. It's very easy to read and I would have given this book a higher score but for one major contradiction. All of Section 1 focuses on "Emotional Cupidity" and picks apart the misconceptions that 1) romance equals love and 2) love is a feeling and goes on to detail how those 2 beliefs can affect expectations and relationships in unhealthy ways.

Yet in Chapter 39, which focuses on breakups, Mrs. Dimarco goes on to detail how she broke up with someone because "she loved him, but she wasn't 'in love' with him'. Instead of explaining this seeming discrepancy between what she was preaching and what she was practicing, she instead says she should have broken up with that man earlier. I don't know if there were other factors involved, but this just really stood out to me.
