We received this as a gift for our son (10), and had no idea what to expect from it. At our last family night, we decided to take it out. Wow! We played this for hours it was so fun! Essentially, you pick a card and try to make the shot it tells you to. The shot might be to roll it off your nose, one bounce and into the cup. Bounce it off floor, against the wall, and into the cup, etc. It even has cards that allow you to create your own custom shot.
Each card informs you how many chances you have to make it. Thus for easy shots the card might give you one or two tries, and complex shots will give you up to five attempts.
Regarding the review about the batteries---frankly there is no need for this to even be electronic. It does not keep score or anything, but merely makes a "cool" sound when the shot is made. Scoring is kept by keeping the card's shot you made. If you don't make the shot, you pass the card to the next person who has to try and make that shot. We found this a lot of fun as members of our family made claims such as "that's an easy shot" during others' turns, but of course once their turn came the laugh was on them!
We ended up bouncing that little ball all over the house trying every shot we could think of. This can be used as a great family game, or even a drinking game with your buddies. ;-)

If the idea of this is appealing to you then you will be happy to find out that this set is vastly more fun than an old cup and a pong ball. Cuponk is wildly addictive, the cup is well designed (other than the electronic aspect more later). The balls are a hard plastic and a bit heavier than other PING PONG balls so they make a good plasticy THWOK! sound. The cup doesn't reject shots as it has a nice wide lip and forces balls downwards towards the mechanism. The rim will reject shots, a lot of them however. The graphics while appealing are merely on a sticker that will probably hold up longer than the shot activator, the 2 sfx and lights aren't that amazing but when they function they add to the experience in my case that was literally less than one day. My son and I played this with fresh batteries always turning it on and off for along time when this arrived, later that day when we went to play outside we realized with the help of the instructions that these units don't function in sunlight or bright light well. Later when I went to try it alone in the dark cave my first sunk shot resulted in a stuck light and sfx that I can find no way to remedy, even removing, and replacing the batteries. I love almost everything about this toy from the simplistic aspect to the well thought out cup. The graphics on the cuponk balls are decent and withstand play we would like to see a cup that keeps track of shots/score and a solar powered battery that not only recharges but functions in sunlight. I will get a replacement but the fact that these don't come with batteries but include a useless cardboard gimmick instead makes me a little bummed. The cards that don't use the funnel are terrific and creating your own shots is endlessly fun so 4 minus 1 equals 3 stars.
*Edit my broken unit was replaced (by AMZ) and the new one has more sound effects 6 by my count, we love this toy so a functioning unit garners 4 stars I would go 5 if it included some kind of rechargable battery solution.

I got this for my father in law as a fun birthday gift and when we got to his house my kids and nieces and nephews LOVED it. I mean, its a cup (that the ball wont bounce out of) and a couple pingpong balls and challenge cards but we ended up playing for hours! It's a great geometry and physics lesson, too!

Lots of fun if you make up your own way to get the ball into the cup. Almost impossible if you follow the cards provided. However, if you love a challange, this is it.

Not worth the money
I personally think this toy is a waste of money. All it is is a cup and a ping pong ball. You could get that a lot cheaper than what they are selling the cuponk for. Read more
