A friend recommended this book to me because I am suffering from fatigue brought on by prolonged antibiotic treatment. In the two years that I have been sick, nothing has given me as much hope. Although Andrew Weil describes the shortcomings and dangers of traditional medicine, this book is not a rejection of traditional medicine but an attempt to broaden our understanding of the mind and body and their mechanisms for healing. Weil gives examples of patients who have been healed despite medical failures, proof that the human body is capable of curing itself, an idea that Weil describes repeatedly in the book and that can give hope to all patients whom modern medicine has failed. Weil also describes varios alternative treatments and gives suggestions about diet, exercise, vitamins and herbs.
