Book Description

January 1, 2007
Bewildered patients…Missing narcotics….Dying colleagues…...And a shocking family secret.
Just another day at the office for Dr. Nora Sternberg.

When her great aunt, a retired nurse, dies unexpectedly after routine surgery, Dr. Nora Sternberg turns sleuth. Amid a brewing scandal over missing narcotics, she uncovers a sinister plot involving retired doctors and nurses—and a secret that will change her family forever.

As Nora collects her clues, we meet the Sternbergs, Nora’s “stoic” (i.e. repressed) family; her colleagues-in-arms, Jessica and Celine; and all the people who Nora, ever the doctor, thinks of in medical terms—like the handsome physician whose looks are marred by the nervous tic of his periorbital muscles.

Written by a practicing doctor, The Cure For Remembering is a fast-paced mystery for anyone who has ever navigated a hospital’s corridors—or politics.

3.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Blend, January 13, 2008
This review is from: The Cure for Remembering: A Dr. Nora Sternberg Mystery (Hardcover)
I don't usually like medical mysteries because the authors tend to have a difficult time blending the "medical" and the "mystery". In some stories, you lose something if you don't have a physician's knowledge of the practice of medicine. At other times, the medical aspects of the story are superfluous to the point where you wonder why bring them up at all. In this book, the two elements are blended very well. The medical points are central to the story and you don't have to be a doctor to understand them. I also liked the character development.

Too much family. Too many relatatives. Too much genealogy. Too much extraneous detail. Thin, not very well developed plot.

At $0.44 plus shipping the book is overpriced. I'd like to know the details of how this book was published, and can't imagine how it could be viewed as potentially profitable.

Although the grammar and paragraph structure are okay, the storyline is awful: severely padded with extraneous nonsense such as lists of relatives with their names vis-a-vis what they are routinely called. And this occurs repeatedly.

The medical naratives are irrelevant (except to remind the reader that the author is a physician) and serve as additional diluent. The book could open with a paragraph that summarizes the salient facts within the first 75 pages. That's all I could justify reading.
