5.0 out of 5 stars Where DOESN'T this album go!, January 20, 2005
This review is from: Cure for Sanity (Audio CD)
It really has everything a modern experimental rock album should have. Absolutely terrifying how ingenius this band was. They graze hip hop, rock, reggae, dance, latin, electro jazz, etc. It kills me that they weren't bigger in America, what with the success of Beastie Boys and Prodigy. It's an album that will go in any direction it sees fit and borders on the line of twisted, funny and political. These are musicians that are top of their game, and have made something too unusual and pleasant for words.

I enjoy effort they made. But if you want to know where they really had some fun and played around a bit. This really will cure your sanity.

5.0 out of 5 stars the cure for bland, mainstream, drizzle radio pop, February 10, 2008

PWEI, my favorite band. This is my favorite album of their's. This is musical genious at it's best. Their sound is completely indescribable. X,Y,and Zee is one of my favorite songs. Lived in Splendor: Died in Chaos is another great track which is surrounded by a sample of the Blade Runner theme. All of the tracks are terrific and filled with loops, beats, and samples. If you are looking for a unique sound mixed with rock, industrial, and a little hip-hop, coupled with just about every sound imaginable, then look no further. For you have found the cure(for sanity).

5.0 out of 5 stars always one of my FAVORITE albums, September 17, 2008
This review is from: Cure for Sanity (Audio CD)
this album is sick, dope and fresh all at once! I have loved it since I heard x, y and zee on mtv, and remember buying this on cassette at the mall, playing in my dad's car and the shock and horror of him and my sister like "what the hell is that, and take that tape out"! lol. In years since I must admit, my sister realizes their manic genius, in a world of normalcy, they have always managed to be on the outside, and in a way so appealing you can't believe they weren't bigger, as others on here have said. but no matter, more for us to love. This album has managed to keep a fresh edge, as the best of their material has, no matter how old. I don't think there's a song on here I don't love. The production is so thick, there is so much going on that you can get lost in intergalactic punk rock hip hop.......

5.0 out of 5 stars Hidden Gem of an Album!, April 16, 2011

This review is from: Cure for Sanity (Audio CD)
I first heard of PWEI around 1996, when I was 12 years old. I saw the video for Ich Bin Ein Auslander on TV, and was immediately hooked to this band. I was young and discovering lots of great bands like Front 242, Type O Negative, Front Line Assembly, NIN, Faith No More, Ministry, etc. I even bought that crappy playstation game Loaded, simply because the soundtrack was by PWEI (For diehard PWEI fans the game is worth getting because the disc can be played on any CD player, and contains LOADS of cool instrumentals, B-sides, and demos). Anyway, it wasn't until recent that I actually discovered this out of print album Cure for Sanity. This is the best PWEI album ever! I was blown away by how awesomely complex, layered, and driven the album is. Even though it was released in 1990, it truly stands as an innovative collection of music. It's better than a lot of new albums I have gotten in recent years. This is a must own, and it's quite unfortunate that it happens to be out of print, as well. Buy a used copy now and play it loud!

5.0 out of 5 stars You Have No Idea, April 16, 2010
This review is from: Cure for Sanity (Audio CD)
In the years since I first heard "Cure for Sanity" I have waited, patiently mind you, for the Poppies - or ANY other band for that matter - to release a follow up. And waited. And waited. And while PWEI did, indeed, release two subsequent full length albums, "Cure for Sanity" stands as a musical anomaly; reaching beyond the event horizon and taking with it the secrets of its genius. It is simply beyond comparison. I can scarcely describe its genre; star bright yet smoldering dark, devient yet playfull, dance-hook laden yet seethingly rock tinged. As to the target demographic, "Cure for Sanity" is an aural Rorschah test. Throughout the first front-to-back playing of the album, the listener finds themself whispering "what the" while shaking their head in a questioning manner. Then, just as the seemingly chaotic music sends a frustrated hand toward the "STOP" button, a realization occurs; the dazzling train-wreck that is this album's musical craftsmanship blossoms in the ear and creates a noticeably sinister smile across the listener's face. The hand pulls away, the eyes close... the love begins.

By the third time through "Cure for Sanity", all senses are at its mercy. Like the drunken madman on a dancefloor it conjures up with Dance of the Mad, so go the ears of PWEIs newest lifelong fan. "Cure for Sanity" completed what Pop Will Eat Itself's "This is the Day..." set out to do: that was to change our collective musical landscape forever. Absolute genius.

Always good to have this CD back in my collection in case anything ever goes wrong with iTunes. Like being able to add this to my library if I need to by scanning it.

Box Frenzy ignored, this is the best CD I've ever listened to. I recommend it to anyone who likes to crank it up. A veritable cornucopia of unique beats and lyrics make their way to this wise album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent..., December 4, 2003

...simply excellent.
