My 5 year old daughter, who has seen me return home from the pottery studio with my works in hand, was really excited to received her own pottery wheel for her birthday. We were both greatly disappointed to find that the wheel power was so insufficient that each time she even gently placed her hands on the clay, the wheel came to a grinding halt. Given this, it was impossible to even teach her the basics of centering clay, let alone create any sort of thrown piece. I did not expect this to work as well as the wheels I use, but I did expect that she could at least learn a few fundamental skills. This product was completely disappointing and I would not recommend it, particularly if there is no parent with throwing experience. If this is the best product out there, I recommend sticking to hand building with clay--they can learn to thrown on a wheel when they are old enough to go to a proper studio.

I think this toy is not educational at all. It is way to over priced and it breaks really fast. It is a usless toy thjat is expensive to buy but cheap when it comes to playing with it. I had bought one for my little sister for christmas and two day after she was playing with it, it broke so I thought ok maybe she did it so I took it and told them whant had happened and then I got anonther one for her then the next day it broke so it is really a cheap toy in my eyes. And you might say ooh.... your sister was too young to be playing with it well my sister is 14 years old. So that is my review for the Pottery Wheel.

Please, do not waste your time on this product. It is the biggest waste of money. I bought it after using professional potter's wheel in the studio I worked at, and did not expect for this toy to compare to the wheel's at the studio, so I was suprised at the speed the wheel went at with nothing on it, and with 2lbs on it. But the very minute I put the slightest pressure on the wheel to attempt to center the clay, the wheel came to complete stop. I tried for another hour with less and less clay, and the result was always the same. This is a complete gimmick and not worth a moment of your time.

The wheel works fine...my five year old son loves it so much we ran out of clay the first use. Much to my dismay, there is NO CLAY available at ToysRus that works with this wheel...we had to go to a craft shop to find real clay and that is too difficult to work with...so we are stuck with a wheel we cannot use because the clay that works with it is not available...what a GIMMICK!

Frustrating, Not Fun,

While I wouldn't expect a professional quality wheel for a child's starter toy, I would expect a wheel powerful enough to at least turn. Even my daughter's 7 year old hands on a well wetted lump of clay proved too much resistance for this wheel. It kept stopping dead at the slightest touch. The lack of power will be frustrating to any child, and making a balanced bowl will be impossible. Kids would do better to form bowls by hand. We took this toy back.

I bought this for my daughter for Christmas over many other cheaper toy models that got horrid reviews and seems to not work at all. This wheels seems O.K., especially for a child, but it does present alot of difficulty that takes away from the joy of spinning pottery. My husband has a good amout of experience spinning on high quality wheels so he helped our daughter make a small pot on this wheel. While they were able to make a finished piece on this wheel, it seemed like it wasn't the best example of what its like to spin pottery on a "real" wheel. My husband was able to tell her things I would not have understood, like where to put her hands & how to control the clay but I could see he was getting frustrated (not with her lack of understanding but with the wheel itself). It was strong enough to spin pottery (which is more than I've heard from other brands), and we did end up with a cute finished bowl and will be using this wheel again. My daughter had fun and she did learn how spinning clay works. I wouldn't consider this an outstanding product, but for a toy wheel, it did work at an acceptable level, for a 3rd grader who wanted to learn the basics of spinning pottery.

I was excitd to get this for my 5 year old daughter. Thought it would be a find learning experience. We set it up, plugged it in and the wheel would not spin. I opened the case to find the gear motor was not touching the gears so I straigtened it up and it worked. Moments later, the power stopped. I opened it again to find the wire to the AC/DC adapter fell off. I didn't have a solder gun so I used electrical tape to connect it. That worked for a while too. I couldn't believe all the problems I had. This isn't the only toy we;ve had problems with this year either. Doesn't anyone make quality toys anymore?? All this plastic just breaks too easily.
