Regina sounded just like Madonna. In fact, when her hit single "Baby Love" hit the airwaves in 1986, everyone thought it was Madonna--they sound so much alike. This CD contains Regina's only top-10 pop hit "Baby Love"...but what a great song it was. This CD is rare and out-of-print, so good luck if you can get a used copy for less than $50!

Similar in many ways to Alisha (including her delightfully playful physical appearance), Regina doesn't sing nearly as well, but this is still some solid, fun dance pop. Best known for the big hit "Baby Love" (not the Supremes song), this guilty pleasure has Regina deciding to call up a boy after her parents leave her home alone. Though the premise of this song is somewhat suggestive, there are no vulgar lyrics in it, and the beat is catchy as hell. The 12 inch version, which can be found on the 1987 Atlantic compilation Dance Traxx, Vol. 2, is even better.

As a previous reviewer wrote, lots of people compared Regina to Madonna back when this album (with first single "Baby Love") came out. They called her a Madonna-wannabe. Most people don't realize that Regina was actually performing material like this BEFORE Madonna came along. I remember when Baby Love was HUGE on the radio, and Oprah had Regina as a guest. Even Oprah asked her about being compared to Madonna...and Regina tried to set the record straight in her response. I'm not sure Oprah bought it, as she quickly moved her along (off the stage) shortly after her performance was done.

I think this is a great CD. The fact that it sounds so much like Madonna should give Madonna-worshipers some insight as to how "cutting edge" (or not) she really was/is. Madonna has gotten lots of credit for breaking barriers and redefining what music/performance art is. Most people (per usual) don't realize that the real cutting edge female artist is/was Cher. Cher was pushing buttons, causing controversy and re-inventing herself DECADES before anyone even had heard of Madonna.

Some say she was a "Madonna" clone. I guess due to the fact the they both used the same producer for their hits, Stephen Bray, and their voices and style were similar. But the difference is Regina could sing. She had a bit of a soulful range that Madonna couldn't match. Unfortunately Madonna's marketing saavy beat out substance like it usually does with most singers, including the late Teena Marie, who didn't sound like Madonna at all. But again, this album, though it's very pop oriented, is very likeable. Unfortunately, Regina didn't do a follow-up to this album and who knows of her whereabouts. A very good album that unfortunately, along with the singer, has gone into the box of obscurity. Can we say, "Curiousity" killed the CD??...:)
