Kindergarten-Grade 2 These stories, adapted from filmstrips, are very short, and are shorter on plot and action than the original series. Predictably, each page looks like one filmstrip frame with a caption below. In Curious George Goes Fishing, George tries his hand at fishingbut he catches only the fish in a man's frying pan, which he casts into the water. In Curious George Vis its a Police Station , George delights in swinging from the barred doors of the jail cells in the new police station. He proceeds to lock up the police chief and the mayor. In both books, the young monkey redeems himself. These short stories don't have the read-aloud charm of the original ``Cu rious George'' books (Houghton), but for youngsters who desperately want any Curious George book, they will do. Deirdre R. About the Author
Hans Augusto Rey was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1898. As a child, he spent much of his free time in that city's famous Hagenbeck Zoo drawing animals. After serving in the army during World War I, he studied philology and natural science at the University of Hamburg. He then married Margret Rey and they moved to Montmartre for four years. The manuscript for the first Curious George books was one of the few items the Reys carried with them on their bicycles when they escaped from Paris in 1940. Eventually, they made their way to the United States, and Curious George was published in 1941. Curious George has been published in many languages, including French, German, Japanese, Afrikaans, and Norwegian. Additional Curious George books followed, as well as such other favorites as CECILY G. AND THE NINE MONKEYS and FIND THE CONSTELLATIONS.

Poor George, poor parents who have to read this book,

I'll preface my reasons for giving this book the lowest rating possible by saying that my 2-year old does enjoy reading this book. That being said, the only good thing I can see about this book is that it helps us to get out of the house more often because when my child comes running with this book in hand saying "read this one Mommy" I will go to any length to avoid reading it to her.
There are many good Curious George stories out there. This is not one of them. The only one I've read that surpasses this one in terms of awkward language and nonsensical plot is Curious George and the Bunny. *Spoiler Alert* In this book Curious George does not actually catch any fish; he decides to "fly a kite on a string" instead of "catching a fish on a string". Come on people, are we really that PC? And where is the man in the yellow hat? Now I know why the parents of our 5 year old neighbor so kindly handed down this book to us (along with the Bunny book!). Do yourself a favor and choose anything by Dr. Seuss instead.

I purchased this little book as a companion gift to the Paz - Ready Set Learn fishing kit. I was surprised that it has a cardboard cover and pages. It's a very durable little book w/great illustrations. Our 3 yr old neighbor is thrilled w/it!

Cute, brief little BOARD book. I overlooked that in the description; was just anxious to get a book on fishing to go along with my child's gift of a fishing pole. It's a little young for her but she enjoys Curious George and it went with the theme so it was worth it.
