Curious George and Friends: Favorite Stories by Margret and H. A. Rey contains eight classic stories by the creators of Curious George. The stories are Curious George, Spotty, Billys Picture, Elizabite, Pretzel, Cecily G And the 9 monkeys, Whiteback Penquin sees the world, and Katy no Pocket. These are all great picture books for young animal lovers in one book. Many of these stories show kids it's okay to be different. I enjoyed reading these stories aloud to my children. We love Curious George and were excited to read more by the Reys If your family enjoys Curious George I recommed this book. The other stories are just as sweet as the Curious George stories.

Keep in mind that this collection contains only one Curious George story. The other stories focus on somewhat less compelling characters with whom your children will likely be heretofore unfamiliar. Some of the stories I find rather insipid and so as a bedtime story book, I should like to warn the adult consumer that they may prefer another more modern volume as they may quickly tire, as I have, reading the story of Cecily G. and the 9 Monkeys night after night. Curious George was the Rey's great success for a reason.
One bright point is the short story "Spotty" which was actually banned from southern libraries in the 20th Century as it deals with race. In a unique take on the "ugly duckling" story, Spotty, the mixed brown and white rabbit, struggles with an identity crisis seeking whether he belongs with his white rabbit family or if he should leave them to join a family of brown rabbits. It's a low-key values tale about how individual relationships and kinship can transcend racial barriers when we have compassion. Clean, bright colors and large typeface accessible to early readers. High quality binding and printing.

This volume is a convenient way to read the works of H.A. and Margret Rey that aren't about Curious George. Some of the titles are hard to find today. When my now-grown daughters were very young they enjoyed reading about Elizabite and Katie No Pockets. I actually bought this book for my husband who is a collector of Curious George memorabilia. He loves it.

This is a really wonderful collection of stories that can be rather difficult to find individually. Yes, there's only one Curious George story (if you want all of the original CG stories, look for The Complete Adventures of Curious George: 70th Anniversary Edition instead), but this volume includes Elizabite, Cecily G., Spotty, Pretzel, Whiteblack, Billy, and, of course, the incomparable Katy No-Pocket.
I actually bought this for my 12yo, shortly after he read Louise Borden's The Journey That Saved Curious George: The True Wartime Escape of Margret and H.A. Rey. It's a short picture-book account of the Reys' lives, focusing on their escape from occupied France during WWII. Included in the pages were many sketches and illustrations from other Rey stories, and my son became excited about re-reading old favorites from his childhood (George, Katy) and finding out about others we'd missed along the way. When Curious George and Friends arrived, he put down the latest dystopian teen fantasy and cackled his way through these lovely little stories, periodically stopping to shout, "Hey! I love Spotty!", etc. As my son pointed out afterwards, most of these stories are about a character who is different from those around or who sees the world differently from those around. Each story is about finding your place in the world -- about fitting in and finding delight while maintaining individual strengths, talents, and, indeed, quirks.

My four year old grandson loves Curious George and my kindle fascinates him. I was getting the little stories for almost $4.00 ea. This is a much better bargain and we can move to the next story when ready.

I bought this for a 3-year-old girl who loves books. She loved it! Within an hour of receiving it, I found it in the bathroom where she had taken it to read. Now where did she get that idea? LOL!
