About the Author

The Reys were born in Hamburg, Germany. Hans Augusto Rey (1898-1977) met his wife-to-be, Margret (1906-1996), at a party in her father’s home in Germany; when he first caught a glimpse of her, she was sliding down the banister. In their twenties and thirties they lived in Paris and in Rio de Janeiro, where Hans sold bathtubs in villages along the Amazon River. Eventually Cambridge, Massachusetts, became the Reys’ home and community. Throughout their lives the Reys created many lively books together, including SPOTTY, PRETZEL, and lift-the-flap books such as HOW DO YOU GET THERE? The manuscript of the first Curious George books was one of the few items the Reys carried with them on their bicycles when they escaped from Paris in 1940. Eventually, they made their way to the United States, and CURIOUS GEORGE was published in 1941. Their incorrigible little monkey has become an American icon, selling millions of books and capturing the hearts of readers everywhere. CURIOUS GEORGE has been published in many languages, including French, German, Japanese, Afrikaans, and Norwegian. Additional Curious George books followed, as well as such other favorites as CECILY G. AND THE NINE MONKEYS and FIND THE CONSTELLATIONS.

Cracks up laughing every time we read it.

If you watch the show and haven't read any of the books before, they are very similar in style and look to each other, as close as a kids book to a kids show can be.
JustMe
The problem is the Kindle version is like someone photocopied the book into digital form.

To date my daughter has been reading the "Curious George" books that belonged to my husband when he was a child. I was a little skeptical that the newly written stories would capture the same spirit as those written more than 30 years ago. However, my daughter absolutely loved it especially as both the storyline and the illustrations were more detailed than usual and made it fun for her to point out different things and extend into a discussion with us about beaches, lifesaving etc. Like her other "George" books she has reread this one over and over.

This book and Curious George himself takes me back to a gentler time. A time when I was young and a time when my son was young. He and I LOVE to read all about George's silly mishaps daily.

This book was an automatic favorite because we live in Rhode Island and live at the beach in the summer. So he would always take this book and his george doll down in his bag. These stories are filled with laughter and love, two things a child can't get enough of and there is usually even a good manners lesson taught to George too that they don't soon forget.

So, any of the Curious George series is a winner with our family...and we don't even live near the "man with the yellow hat". lol*

Have fun and make each night a night you read to your child...it's so important. I even read to him in the womb each night. He talked early and certainly knew my voice almost immediately.

A winner any way you look at it. : ) Thank you George.

This probably varies a lot child to child, but my 3 year old daughter is part fish and loves the beach. She also loves Curious George. But to buy the books individually can be pretty expensive. Which is why we own the two Curious George collections and have been reading them to our daughter since she was 2. For the money, you can't beat getting 16 stories for a fraction of the cost of buying them separately. But CG Goes to the Beach is not included in either of the two collections, and being that my daughter loves the beach, I gave in and bought this one individually. It's typical CG humor and every bit as good as any of the stories in the collections and, for us, definitely worth buying separately.

I love George. We have almost all of them. But this one? It goes too far! Usually George's behavior is silly mischief or ridiculous circumstances. In this one, they take a real life dangerous situation - an object floating away at the beach - and have George swim out far in the ocean to rescue it, returning to much fanfare. I'm usually pretty relaxed, but after this one we had a big conversation about how I can replace a toy but I can't replace them, and that George made a very dangerous choice that wasn't worth it.

My kid loves Curious George and the beach so we had to get this one. He loves the part where the bird starts to take George's food. Cracks up laughing every time we read it.

This book is a huge disappointment! Very poorly illustrated and looks like a third rate copy machine job with pages and then the words all repeated below. Very surprised copyright would allow this degradation of the wonderful original. This looks like a pirated remake. Amazon should screen for such misuse. Not illustrated by the authors but "in the style of". This is a rip off!
DO NOT BUY THIS VERSION'

Don't buy this if you have the Galaxy Tab 10.1. The format of this particular book is as follows:
- The first page will contain what appears to be a scanned page from the original book with extremely small text.
- The next page will contain an exact duplicate of the text from the previous scanned page.
The remaining pages follow this pattern through out the remainder of the book.

What a waste.
