Product Description

Tales of adventure sparkle with fun and mischief in this clever collection!!! Children's book publisher Scholastic has bundled video adaptations of five award-winning picture books on Curious George Rides a Bike... and come up with a treat for youngsters 4 to 9. Kids-lit purists will appreciate the spare animation; the title story and Flossie and the Fox, in fact, are not animated but rather proffer the books' original illustrations accompanied by a narrator's enjoyable readings. Curious George Rides a Bike is a classic episode in H.A. Rey's series in which George rides a bicycle into several misadventures. The Great White Man-Eating Shark, about a boy who uses his resemblance to a shark to scare swimmers, is even more witty with a touch of animation. The aforementioned Flossie is a cute tale about a girl who outwits a vain fox, while the ironic The Cat and the Canary and The Happy Lion, the latter about a Parisian lion who takes a stroll, both look wonderful here. This DVD also contains exclusive bonus features: 2 full-length bonus stories - The Happy Lion and Cat and Canary, as well as Spanish version of Curious George rides a bike.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not impressed March 28, 2006
Format:DVD
By the title I would be led to believe that there is more than one George story. There is one George and a few others, one of which scares my 2 1/2 year old. I thought the stories would be animated. However, some (including George) are pictures from a story book. We love to read books, but videos should be more than photos of a story book. Would not recommend this.

4.0 out of 5 stars Books on video December 15, 2004
Format:DVD
The Scholastic Video Collection is a limited set of Weston Woods's many excellent productions of video versions of children's picture books. Their intention is to create story hour readings of the books -- not animated films. Original illustrations are used, with minimal animation added for emphasis.

Think Reading Rainbow, not Spongebob Squarepants, and you will not be disappointed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not animated September 27, 2004
Format:DVD
Two out of three of the stories in this DVD are not animated. They are simply pictures from the book accompanied by a narrator reading the book. One could do this with a video camera.

1.0 out of 5 stars My 2 1/2 year old and I are very disappointed January 6, 2007
Format:DVD
He finds the George "video" boring - this is not a child who watches videos or TV regularly, so this is surprising, since he LOVES Curious George. THIS IS NOT AN ANIMATION OF CURIOUS GEORGE. And the "other" tales of mischief are stories of other characters, some of which are scary to my 2 1/2 year old. He is still having nightmares from one of them.

This product should make it more clear that it is a compilation of a VARIETY of character-based stories. The marketing/advertising implies that this video is a compilation of Curious George videos --

had I known it was not, and that the Curious George story was not even a video, I would NOT have purchased it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected June 5, 2007
Format:DVD
This wasn't at all what I thought this movie was going to be. I don't know if I just didn't read the reviews or what, but it's only one story about George, and not animated. The other 4 stories are award winning books, some partially animated, some not. I bought it because my daughter loves curious George, but not this dvd, because it isn't about that monkey at all.

5.0 out of 5 stars like how they read the story with minimal animation August 14, 2014
Format:DVD|Verified Purchase
My 2.5 year old daughter loves Curious George and the other stories are cute too. They remind me of Reading Rainbow style, like how they read the story with minimal animation. I read a lot to her so it's like a special treat for her to see the actual books on tv. It's something nice to add to a child's educational DVD collection.
