Following the style of the original creators of the Curious George books, the artists have provided young readers with a new story. George is a curious monkey, and one day he goes out with his good friend—the man with the yellow hat. They sit on a park bench and find a kitten. They decide that the kitten should be taken to the animal shelter, and then we see what happens when George's curiosity really takes hold. He is captivated by the puppies, and before you know it, he has let them out of their cage and my goodness they are into everything. As the man with the yellow hat and the director of the shelter gather them all up, they notice the mother dog barking at a door. One of the puppies had gotten away earlier in the day and hidden in the closet, now he is rescued and joins the rest of his family. George is instrumental in bringing about a happy ending, and, what is more, he ends up taking one of the puppies home. George is really very much like any curious two or three year-old. The original version of this story has been reissued in a lap-sized board book. (Children's Literature )

About the Author
Hans Augusto Rey was born in Hamburg, Germany in 1898. As a child, he spent much of his free time in that city's famous Hagenbeck Zoo drawing animals. After serving in the army during World War I, he studied philology and natural science at the University of Hamburg. He then married Margret Rey and they moved to Montmartre for four years. The manuscript for the first Curious George books was one of the few items the Reys carried with them on their bicycles when they escaped from Paris in 1940. Eventually, they made their way to the United States, and Curious George was published in 1941. Curious George has been published in many languages, including French, German, Japanese, Afrikaans, and Norwegian. Additional Curious George books followed, as well as such other favorites as CECILY G. AND THE NINE MONKEYS and FIND THE CONSTELLATIONS.

One of the Best Curious George Books!,

This past weekend we visited a bookstore and my son wanted not one, but SEVEN Curious George books to add to his collection (he already had several at home). Curious George and the Puppies was one of those books.
Curious George and his friend were in a park when they noticed a lost kitten who looked frightened. This delightful tale follows Curious George as he accompanies The Man With the Yellow Hat to the Animal Shelter to find the kitten a home. While there, the director tells them that they're looking for a puppy that got out of his cage. As usual, TMWTYH leaves George unattended (!) and George ends up opening up a cage filled with dogs. All the animals were making noise and chaos ensues. The director and TMWTYH put all the dogs back in the cage, but the craziness results in a very happy ending for all! This 24-page book is geared towards ages 4-8, but it seems to have more text than most Curious George books. As such, it's great for beginner/intermediate readers. The illustrations are by Vipah Interactive, done in the style of H.A. Rey. Curious George and the Puppies is one of the best of the CG stories because, unlike some of the books, no one goes ballistic on George--even to the extent of calling him names or trying to grab him in anger.

Cute, curious chaos maker is back again, as usual though, things work out well. In this installment George, along with his mentor in the yellow hat finds a kitten, they take the homeless feline to the shelter and alas George discovers the addictive antics of playful puppies. Obligatory mayhem ensues, all resolves with prerequisite happy ending.
In short, you loved these books when you were a kid, your children will too.

Excellent starter for young readers. My boys love him. This is very nice because I grew up with George too.
