5.0 out of 5 stars Educational fun with George, January 26, 2001
This review is from: Curious George's ABCs (Board book)
In "Curious George's ABCs," one of the most famous characters from children's literature guides the reader through the alphabet. Each entry is illustrated by a noun that begins with that letter. To reinforce the alphabet, each letter is actually incorporated into the illustration. For example, the alligator's mouth opens in an angle that physically encloses the letter "A".

Curious George, the loveable monkey of the title, shows up as an observer or participant in most of the entries. As illustrated by H.A. Rey, George is as appealing as ever. I especially liked the illustration of George, bundled up in a snowsuit, looking at an "icy icicle." This is a good book for children learning the alphabet.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great book for learning, April 3, 2000

Curious George makes it fun to learn your ABCs. At the day care where I work, we use it quite a bit for teaching the children their alphabet. I would highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to teach a child.

All of my kids (ages 2-5) like this book. It helps them learn the alphabet and the illustrations are fun. It also helps my younger kids learn various new words. The other thing I like about this book is that there isn't much text, but the book is nonetheless very interactive because kids get to call out the letters and the things associated with those letters.

My son (15 months) loves his Curious George books, but he doesn't love this book. George isn't the main character in the book. Each letter is a different character (A-Alligator) and George is seen just a tiny bit throughout the book. I wouldn't actually call this a Curious George book!

My daughter is a huge Curious George fan. This made the book very interesting for her. As a retired veteran teacher, this helped the introduction of the alphabet. She did not realize we were learning- she is 2 years and 9 months. She knows most of her letters and sounds!!!!

Our family loves this book so much we've been forced to buy a new copy -- our original is so badly frayed from re-reading it's falling apart. But that's a good sign. This book is an outstanding introduction to the alphabet for toddlers and preschoolers. It was part our good-night reading routine for over two years with our son (now 5), and our daughter, 18 months, is following the tradition. The illustrations are whimsical and age-appropriate, with everyday objects and familiar animals used to give kids great reinforcement. There are plenty of cute little asides in the book (for example, "P is for penguin" and in tiny text, the penguin goes "plop") as well as multiple iterations of George, the beloved monkey, on most pages. I can't recommend this book highly enough. Enjoy!

5.0 out of 5 stars The twins loved it!, December 2, 2007
By
This review is from: Curious George's ABCs (Board book)
We bought this book for our slightly-more-than-2-year-old twin grandsons, and they loved it. At this age, they're more interested in identifying the pictures than associating the drawings with the letters, but that's ok. There's something about the monkey image that is endlessly fascinating to them. Go for it!

5.0 out of 5 stars A real page-turner, October 25, 2007
By
This review is from: Curious George's ABCs (Board book)
This was a gift to my son when he was five months old, and it was a fast favorite -- if only because there are so many more pages to turn than in your classic board book! Mom and Dad enjoy the clever, letter-incorporating illustrations in this romp through the alphabet and trust that in time, our boy will, too.
