5.0 out of 5 stars A very lovable book on geometry., August 20, 1997
By A Customer
This review is from: Curious and Interesting Geometry, The Penguin Dictionary of (Paperback)
A superb collection of classical geometrical results. Each therem is stated, its historical significance discussed, if there are any subtle points, they are mentioned, its relation to other theorems is also discussed. Many of the results presented are mostly forgotten after the invention of co-ordinate geometry by Descartes, but with the help of this book, the reader can get the feel of geometry the way it was in Pappus's time. For a book of this size, it really achives a lot

I was asked to enrich a school geometry course. Not much came off the top of my head. After discovering this book, I had so many leads I can enrich for years! It gave an insight into every topic covered in the standard course. It adds so much for those who want to teach more than just a method to get an answer.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Definite 5 Star Book, February 27, 2000

This book is full of wonderful theorems and other facts about geometry. But don't miss an equally wonderful book of his - The Penguin Dictionary of Curious and Interesting Numbers. When I semi-retired several years ago, I gave away many of my math books, but I would not part with these two.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellently researched encyclopedia of Geometry, November 17, 1999

This is my favorite David Wells book. Scads of illustrations motivate hundreds of interesting branches of Geometry. Much of the information in the book was new to me, such as the 14th tiling pentagon. This well-researched book is top-notch.

I bought this book several years ago (1991 edition) when it was still affordable. I was intriguied by the comments of others readers so I gave it a try and Im glad, its full of graphics and just enogh info on the subject that one is forced to delve deeper in internet resulting each topic in a wonderful exploratory trip.
