4.0 out of 5 stars Speeds Germination and Increases Density, June 19, 2009

This review is from: Curlex I Erosion Control Blanket
I recently did some work at home requiring me to dig 4 trenches. To best rate the product, compared it to using the product as directed, not using it at all, using it until the grass began coming through the product and then removing, and also covered some of the seeded spaces with hay. Using the product as directed, I have thick dense grass growing. It came up quicker than all other areas tested, and is thicker as well.

It's very important to make sure the product is flush with the ground, and to let the grass get several inches tall before mowing it. If not, the product will become a tripping hazard and will get caught up in the lawn mower. The latter is not a significant problem, but you won't get the best use out of it.

Also, I had one place in my yard where I'd left a tarp on it for most of the winter and the grass was mostly dead. I shaved the existing grass down with my trimmer (aka weed eater), seeded and fertilized and put the product down over the top. All the grass is growing well at this point, and it was absolutely worth it. I've shared it with my neighbors and they to have used it with much success.

Those interested should keep in mind that it's not going to make grass grow, in places grass won't grow. For instance, if your soil is poor of if you use this in shade; it's not going to be effective. Consider hardscaping instead.
