Curley Williams - I'll make this simple : I just purchased both of his CDs. It says that these are all the songs that he recorded with his Peach Pickers. If you are a REAL fan of 40s and 50s Western Swing this is some of the best music ever recorded. It reminds me somewhat of Spade Cooley but Curley's vocals are the best I have ever heard ( I think he has it over both Tex Williams and Tommy Duncan). These 2 CDs will be the best start or the finest addition to anyone who knows and loves real Western Swing. Lets face it not all Country Music Fans are real Hillbillys, this music is for us who are the "Real Thing". This is a must have ! "ENJOY"

This is one of the more obscure names in hillbilly music (real country music), that has been overshadowed by Hank Penny, and of course, Bob Wills. BUT, Curley can hold his own with both of the aforementioned. This Bear Family Records release covers Curley Williams' 1949-52 years, and includes a fine booklet (as does all of their products) detailing the recording sessions and discography. The musicianship is excellent, and the instrumental, String Steeling, effectively proves this point. But, perhaps the real surprise on this album, is a 1949 recording of none other than the great Hank Williams, doing "No Not Now". Outstanding album.

I was not familiar with Curley Williams. I am now and really enjoy his style very much. Not as big a sound or as hot as Bob Will's, or on par with Spade Cooley, but singularly good and pleasant.
