Abortion continues to be a raging controversy, and this book as well as new a new book Abortion , by Allison Lassieur, and The Ethics of Abortion, edited by Jennifer A. Hurley address the social, moral, medical, and political issues from many viewpoints. Lassieur's title, in the Lucent Overview series, is the most accessible, with a magazine-type design, clear journalistic style, lots of photos, and an up-to-date discussion of the current arguments, including the debates over partial-birth abortion, parents' right to know, and the morning-after pill. The Abortion Controversy, in the Current Controversies series, is an anthology of 24 primary sources. Each chapter includes two full-length articles for an issue and two against. Is abortion immoral? Should protesters target clinics? Should aborted fetuses be used for medical research? The editor's introduction, chapter prefaces, and brief summaries of the articles will help students decide what to read and where to focus their research. The Ethics of Abortion, in the At Issue series, is a shorter, more dense anthology of 15 full articles from many viewpoints, with a brief summary introducing each one. Contributors range from John Paul II to Reproductive Rights activists. All three books include source notes, an annotated bibliography, and organizations to contact.
