Good pocket book for the wards, June 24, 2005
This review is from: Current Essentials of Surgery (Paperback)
I used this book as a third year medical student on my surgery rotation. Although Surgical Recall has long been considered the pocket book to have on wards, I used this one as well. While I agree that Surgical Recall will save you from pimp sessions in the OR, the format is hard to read and remember the information you read for more than a couple of days. Current Essentials of Surgery is different because it presents a disease per page about the kinds of things you'll see with your patients and outlines diagnosis, treatment and clinical pearls. The book isn't meant to be a thorough study source, but hits the high points about most surgical problems. Great to pull out when you are waiting for the next case or in that rare moment of downtime! I'd still recommend getting Surgical Recall, but I think this book fills in a lot of holes that can't be addressed by the question and answer format of Recall.
