This special issue features some of the most important molecular, genetic and clinical aspects of lymphoma that have emerged in the past few years. Special attention is given to lymphoma adhesion molecules, as well as the role of p53 and bcl-2 gene regulation in the pathogenesis of certain types of non-Hodgkin's lymphomas. The alarming increase in the incidence of lymphoma is reviewed in terms of environmental and newly discovered epidemiological factors such as the role of the Epstein-Barr virus. Finally an up-to-date in-depth review on the diagnosis staging in treatment of Hodgkin's disease and a targeted approach to primary therapy of diffuse large cell lymphomas based on favourable or adverse prognostic factors is presented.
