4.0 out of 5 stars Great, Practical Primary Care Resource for daily use, December 17, 2004
This review is from: Current Medical Diagnosis & Treatment, 2005 (Paperback)
As an Internist returning to full-time practice, I was looking for a book that would cover primary care issues in a format that I could easily and authoritatively use "on the fly" while seeing patients. Current Medical Diagnosis & Treatment fits the bill! In fact, after getting one copy and using it fruitfully and easily for a month or so, I bought 2 more copies - one for each office as well as one to take with me when working at an Immediate Care Center. Definitely worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Concise and Complete, August 30, 2005
This review is from: Current Medical Diagnosis & Treatment, 2005 (Paperback)
I'm a medical doctor currently working in indigenous comunities in southern venezuela. I attend to a wide range of medical and non medical problems. I have used the CMDT almost daily since working here. It has proven to be complete and concise, wich is a great feature when you need to pack your stuff and take a boat to the next comunity!. It is not a review, but it will give you the initial ideas to start investigating or treating. So if you're working in a relatively isolated area, where getting seconds opinions is dificult and takes time, doubt no more, this book will be a great help to you.

5.0 out of 5 stars CMDT vt Tierney,McPhee and Papadakis, July 30, 2005
This review is from: Current Medical Diagnosis & Treatment, 2005 (Paperback)
This is an excellent work which documents nearly 1000 maladies-
their essential manifestations, general considerations, prognosis, clinical findings, the differential diagnosis and treatment.

The work would be valuable so that the physician does not omit
any important elements of the overall treatment plan. Optimal
drug doses are cited together with annotated references, a
general approach to the patient and common symptomatology.
Surgical risk factors are outlined in considerable detail.

The acquisition would be an important part of any personal
medical library. The authors provide a current rendition with
brand new references, up-to-date treatments/methods and medical
technology.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, May 19, 2005
This review is from: Current Medical Diagnosis & Treatment, 2005 (Paperback)
Excellent reference work. Well worth the price. Covers everything clearly yet succinctly. The text is very readable without getting too "medical" in the disease descriptions and yet you don't lose the important information. This is a great reference even for those not in the medical community.

I used two editions of the book so far and I am very happy with it.
I am studying for my IM boards now and I find here more information and more updated than Medstudy or MKSAP. Each of these costs about 10 times more. For people with limited budgets I think is a great alternative. The only minor downside is the format which is more descriptive in CMDT and more organized in the others but I got used to it. But the quantity of information is definitely more.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best Medical book to have at your finger tips,,,,, September 29, 2009

For accurate dx and tx of a wide variety of medical conditions, this book ( and the series ) still remains the number one choice of health care professionals.

The later versions are deviating from the excellent format of the 2005 dated copies, so I recommend the earlier versions up to this date.

I love this book. It is so very comparable to the merck manual. It covers every topic beautifully and concisely including all the pertinent things you would need to know for any disease or pathology. I find myself always refering back to it when reviewing material or needing a refresher on certain topics. It is a bulky book so it is not a good book to carry around with you, but as a desk reference its a must have.
