5.0 out of 5 stars A Standard of the Profession
By anyone's standars, the CMDT annuals have to be considered among the best in the business, and for several reasons.

First, the annual review cycle keeps them up to date.

Second the fact that this is now the 46th edition means that they have had plenty of time to work out the details as to what to include and how to find it...

3.0 out of 5 stars Big but vague
Not as useful as I hoped for making a diagnoses. The book is thick and quite clumsy to hold in its soft cover version. Chapters are wordy rather than concise and the charts are not really helpful for differential diagnoses. With all the distinguised authors it needs a better format if it will replace the classic Current Diagnosis that is apparently no longer being...

5.0 out of 5 stars A Standard of the Profession, October 24, 2006
This review is from: Current Medical Diagnosis and Treatment 2007 (Current Medical Diagnosis & Treatment) (Paperback)
By anyone's standars, the CMDT annuals have to be considered among the best in the business, and for several reasons.

First, the annual review cycle keeps them up to date.

Second the fact that this is now the 46th edition means that they have had plenty of time to work out the details as to what to include and how to find it.

Third, each major section is written by specialists in that particular area, specialists who have worked in that area, and on this book for years.

Fourth is the size. The new edition is almost 2,000 pages long. It covers just about everything an internal medicine specialist is supposed to know.

Fifth, CDMT on-line which includes the entire book, plus several thousand addional pages, 1200+ images, drug information, patient handouts and much more.

Sixth, for such a book, this one is surprisingly inexpensive.

All in all, this is the book by which others are compared.

5.0 out of 5 stars Concise alternative to Harrison's Medicine, February 15, 2007
This review is from: Current Medical Diagnosis and Treatment 2007 (Current Medical Diagnosis & Treatment) (Paperback)
For med students, or those looking for a through but not overwhelmingly detailed discussion of almost every major medical condition you'll come across, this book does an excellent job integrating the salient aspects of clinical management - physiology, social factors, pharmacology, laboratory work-up, etc. Great lengths have obviously been taken to keep the text up to date. A great resource. Far more user friendly than Harrison's - and one quarter of the weight.

4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Book, January 10, 2007
This review is from: Current Medical Diagnosis and Treatment 2007 (Current Medical Diagnosis & Treatment) (Paperback)
I always have been a fan of CMDT. Now in last year of residency I bought 2007 edition and now a days reading for my coming IM Boards and almost it covers evey thing an Internist need. However like every book it has few deficiencies as follows,

1-It doesnot cover Pathophysiology very well.
2-Critical Care is also poorly described esp. Vent.Management.
3-Illustrusions and photos are deficient.

Bottom line, excellent concise book for Internist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Concise, complete, no frills, need to know information, September 14, 2007

I am a physician, now retired, and have used, and use, this book for years. I get a new update every two years. IMHO it gives a great review and complete synopsis of many many medical problems. It is paperback. There are no photos, nor graphics. It is well written and well organized. The layout on the pages (using blue titles) makes it easy to read and follow. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Relevant Medical Information, July 25, 2007

It has all the relevant topics you need for a general practice of medicine. It touches on pathophysiology just enough to get you up to speed. There is often little extra clinical advice that is very useful and that I do not encounter in other textbooks. Each chapter also gives you treatment options.

I have been using CMTD since my residency and fellowship. I find the chapters concise and a "good starting point" to update/maintain ones knowledge regarding the highly diverse field of internal medicine. I highly recommend it for medical students, residents and attending physicians.

First, I am not a medical professional, but I was a Pre-Med major in college. I was not able to get into medical school. I bought this book for a relative who is a nurse and who needed a more recent copy of the CMDT book. From just scanning the book and my scientific background (limited as it is), it provides a good reference material for those who have to deal with patients in their workplace. The material is comprehensive and limited enough to provide a good summary for health professionals. My relative works in a clinical office setting and the book provides helpful information when assessing a patient. The one thing that I didn't like about the book is the trend the publishers have done to remove some material from the previous edition and to put it online. You are allowed a 1 year access to the website and then you have to pay an annual fee to continue the access. The 2008 edition carried this trend even further and some material was taken out of that edition resulting in a smaller book. If you read some of the reviews of the 2008 CMDT book, there were complaints about this trend. Taking material out and telling your reader to go find it online is sort of forcing one to have to go to two sources to get information. Why then bother to publish a book at all? I know that the Internet has become a more widely used resource for any profession. But I just don't like the fact that I would have to search multiple places to find an answer to a topic or question.
