Book Description

The Seventh Edition of CURRENT SURGICAL THERAPY features 280 all-new chapters, each written by an expert surgeon who offers proven, practical approaches to the surgical management of a given disease. Contributors have been chosen not only for their prominence in the field, but also because they are actively involved in patient care. Each chapter covers a condition that is seen with some frequency in the general surgeon's practice. For faster reference, chapters follow a consistent format: patient selection, timing of therapy, preoperative care, operative technique, postoperative management, adjuvant therapy, prevention and management of complications, and follow-up. Diagnosis and pathophysiology are discussed only to the extent that they affect treatment choices.

All-new chapters by all-new contributors explore more than 280 different diseases--discussing patient selection, timing of therapy, preoperative care, technique, adjuvant therapy, complications, follow-up, and more for each disorder! MS 6/01

"Should be indispensable to a busy practicing general surgeon.A godsend."-Current Surgery. The 7th Edition features 280 all-new chapters, each written by an expert who offers proven, practical approaches to the surgical treatment of a given disease. - MS 09/2003

5.0 out of 5 stars Surgeon's best friend, December 20, 2003
This review is from: Current Surgical Therapy (Hardcover)
If you only have time to read one book, this is the one. Every topic is boiled down to only the pure gold. All the useless facts that you can't remember anyway are left out. Presented in an easy to understand, easy to remember format. This is really all you need. I plan on reading every new issue when available. By the way, I've read Schwartz, Norton, Sabiston, and ACS over the past few years. All are good, but I already work long enough hours for my free time to be spent reading such lengthy texts.

This review is from: Current Surgical Therapy (Hardcover)
This is an easy to read surgery text with up to date techniques and tests; however, there are numerous errors in the text. For the most part they are simple ones, easily reasoned out (i.e. gastric pH decreased with PPIs); but, for a seventh edition this kind of sloppiness calls into question the integrity of rest of the text.
