This review is from: Currents and Countercurrents: Korean Influences on the East Asian Buddhist Traditions (Paperback)
Korea has always been seen as a small and almost uninfluential country when compared with China and Japan; yet as historic records, literature and other important literature started to be translated into English we are becoming more and more aware of the enormous influence and contribution this country had in the history of Asia and to its scientific, artistic and cultural development.
"Currents and Countercurrents" is a wonderful work of research. Results from several researches have been compiled together (along with researches from the author) and a clear pattern started to appear: Korea not only was a very dynamic cultural center, but gave an enormous contribution to the Asian culture; in this case to the development of Asian Buddhists philosophy. The organization of the book guides the reader through the various topics and the well documented references allow the reader to verify and even dive into each of the subjects. Definitely a book to recommend to everybody interested in Asian studies in general and Korea history and culture in particular. |
