Amazon.com Product Description

Proving that trikes aren't just for kids anymore, the iZip Tricruiser electric tricycle offers an ideal way to get around town without tiring yourself out. The Tricruiser is equipped with a 450-watt DC Earth magnet motor an SLA-type 36-volt rechargeable battery, making it far cleaner than gas-powered scooters and hybrid cars. The high-capacity battery also offers a range of 30 to 35 miles per charge, so you can make it back and forth to the grocery store several times without running low on power. And once you're on the road, the Tricruiser boasts a top speed of 15 miles per hour (contingent on the rider weight)--plenty fast enough for most side streets. Is the market too far to walk but close enough that a car feels wasteful? Turn to the Tricruiser, which comes with a high-capacity rear basket that can hold everything from groceries to tools to children's toys.

The Tricruiser is powered by both the electric motor and good old-fashioned foot power, with an easy-to-use "twist-and-go" throttle helping propel you forward. The trike is also extremely comfortable thanks to the extra-wide comfort saddle. Other features include a patented Currie Electro-Drive system with speed-specific gearing, heavy-duty alloy 24-inch rims with full fenders, and adjustable cruiser handlebars with dual-density grips.

5.0 out of 5 stars Loved by an elder, September 30, 2010

Bought this for a relative who is 70 years old and looking for way get around local streets without waiting hours for bus. Driving is not ideal as he hasn't driven for a while and parking is issue.

Assembling for me took 4 hours the first time, but will probably take me less than 1 hour doing it again. The wheels seem pre-adjusted where I can just snap on the frame without further alignment. This was my fear since my kids bikes require alignments that was painful. The rear mud guards needed some bending to make sure not hitting the wheels, but that's easy enough by hand. Screws weren't perfectly align with holes for installing the basket, but it wasn't too bad.

It also comes with a metallic red paint touch up, which becomes very important as scratches are inevitable with a one-person installation of this heavy/durable bike. The touch up paint totally made all scratches disappear.

I test rode this tricycle and had absolutely no problem. I just sit back and let it take me! It has good enough speed (probably 12 - 15mph based on 180lbs) on flat surface, and will get slower as you climb hills.

For some people, like my father in law who rode street bicycle good part of his life in Asia, this was a problem at beginning. This is because 1) it's a tricycle, and more importantly, 2) it's powered. Once he thinks like he's driving a car instead, it was all heaven for him! He gets nothing but praises and envies anytime he "drives" it down the street to to go local grocery stores and restaurants. He thinks he has the "Rolls Royce" with plenty of worshipers!

A note on the battery. Take it out and charge the minute you receive your package. It'll take a while to charge. Don't wait until you are ready to assemble, then find out you must wait many more hours after assembly in order to drive it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Bike!, October 4, 2010

This review is from: Currie Technologies iZIP Tricruiser Electric Tricycle (24-Inch Wheels) (Sports)
5 stars for the complete bike and Amazon. 2 for the shipper.

Nothing but praise for the (completed) bike, another reviewer has already commented on some the few minor irritants of assembly (misaligned screw hole for basket, back fenders requiring "adjustment", etc.)

My main assembly irritant was putting the rear 2 wheel assembly onto the main frame. For some reason, I had to push and "jolt" the two sides together a tad more physically than expected (the right side had an "issue" lining up like it should), but after getting a little more physical with it, it came together like it should. I guess I was being too careful (after all, the bloody thing cost almost a grand!), and eventually got it together just fine. I also had to fine tune the front brakes, but no big deal.

Also, make sure you have metric tools/wrenches, a small amount of grease, and you will need two #10 metric wrenches, not just one (among at least a #17 and some other similar metric sizes)- can't do it without the metric tools.

Now, the real problem I had: The bike ships in two packages, and clearly notes it as such on the boxes and on apparently warehouse warnings as well. Well, the bike was my wife's birthday present, and your can guess what happened, box 2 of 2 (which has the rear assembly) either was lost or not shipped (I believe the transit co said not shipped).

So, I call up Amazon, and bless them, no questions asked, they shipped another full set and arranged for the box 1 of 2 to be picked up (they [nor I] didn't want a mismatch of parts). I cannot say enough for Amazon. They did "good".

As to the shippers, while the first CEVA (the shipping company) crew was nice, they clearly didn't pay attention to the box 1 of 2 stuff clearly noted on the box and acted surprised I would question them. But still nice, none the less, and called en route and came within 5 minutes of their expected delivery time. The second crew, which delivered the "full set" of box 1 and 2, were not near as professional and arrived 1 hour 15 minutes after their estimated arrival time calling en route (both crews called from their truck via cell phone while on their way and gave me their ETA). They were supposed to arrive per the advance scheduling of 11-3, they did not show until after 4:10 pm., which basically wasted my afternoon waiting for them.) The second shipment crew also did not have a dolly to transport the obviously heavy boxes, and the boxes were separated despite the warnings not to separate (as well as the company office saying there were indeed two cartons tied together to ensure no loss/separation in shipping).

So be sure to verify two cartons are shipped!!!! You might have to call Amazon or the shipper to verify, the raw shipping data doesn't say this.

One last gripe about the shipping co, despite obviously wanting the second shipment quickly since my wife's birthday had long passed, I know the bloody thing had arrived in Houston on Monday and they would not deliver until that Friday at our location, which is north of Houston about 65 miles. Not cool.

All that said, all parts arrived in great shape in the second shipment and other than the usual minor hassles of assembly, the bike is loved by my wife!

Had trouble with rear fenders.. They didn't line up right. left them off. I weigh 190 lbs. and top speed is still 12.5 mph. Fast enough. Love this tricycle!
