4.0 out of 5 stars Praiseworthy collection., November 5, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Currier & Ives: Portraits of a Nation (Hardcover)
"Currier & Ives" is a praiseworthy collection of 100 full-color reproductions of Currier & Ives prints from the Museum of the City of New York.

Alexander Bonfante-Warren laudably details the history of the Currier & Ives firm, which was established in 1834 and produced some of America's warmest and most popular pictures.

The author also provides us with a short history of printmaking and advice on collecting prints.

Some of the impressive works assembled here include "Falls of Niagara," Clipper Ship 'Comet,'" and "American Winter Scenes: Evening."

Though there are few of those classic New England snow prints, this volume is still a marvelous one.
