The Curse of the Blue Figurine,
By
This review is from: The Curse of the Blue Figurine: A Johnny Dixon Mystery (Mass Market Paperback)
As an adult and an avid reader of children's literature, I can heartily recommend this book to adults and children alike. It is a wonderful blend of fantasy and mystery that will not only make you laugh, but make the hairs on the back of your neck stand on end! Even adults can find a great deal of pleasure reading Mr. Bellairs. I'm a huge fan of J.K. Rowling and this book...in fact all of John Bellairs books...come quite close to attaining the level of entertaiment reached by the Harry Potter series. So, if you have already finished Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire (I have and it's fantastic) and you haven't a clue as to what you will read to tide you over until Ms. Rowling publishes book number 5, read The Curse of the Blue Figurine...and all of the other wonderful books by John Bellairs. You won't be disappointed, whether you are 9 or 90.

I enjoyed this book very much. It all started when my school had a Scholastic Book fair, and then on the day I forgot to bring my money! So my friend bought the book for me since it was on a huge sale ($2.00!) and I decided to read it. At first I chose this book only because it was cheap, and I thought it would be BORING! But I was SO wrong! This book has a superior plot, a great story outline, and mostly, it is thrilling! It is about 12-year-old Johny Dixon after hearing a tale of Father Baart decided to find out if it was true. Then a mystery starts to happen where a stranger gives him a ring, but a was truly Father Baart. At the end the story ends happily, and I read it over and over again like 3 times already! My brother is reading it now, and he says so far so good. I am currently buying book by John Bellairs. Thanks for writing such a interesting book that I can't put down!

The Curse of the Blue Figurine is a superduper book. I loved this book because it's about magic happenings. In this story Johnny finds a mystical statue and a letter from Father Baart. Weird things start to happen to the young innocent boy. Johnny thinks it's just a legend, but is it? If you really want to find out, READ this book and I am sure you won't regret it.

John Bellairs was one of my favorite writers when I was in Elementary School. He wrote interesting, scary mysteries that any kid would enjoy. I only wish that he wrote adult thrillers! His stories are so good, I think that even adults would enjoy them. If you're looking for a good author for your child, get his stories!!

I read this book in 4th grade, and it remained my favorite novel until well into high school. At one point, the characters are going down a dimly lit staircase, and the tension was so vivid that I had to put my covers over my head. It was only then that I realized the book wasn't real. John Bellairs is an exceptional writer. Before this book, I didn't like reading much; after this book, I became a fanatic.

Suspense Masterpiece!,

This review is from: The Curse of the Blue Figurine: A Johnny Dixon Mystery (Mass Market Paperback)
I read this book as an early teen and loved the characters, the plot and the suspense. It was terrifying without being cornball, sympathetic to the characters, and written on a level that children could understand and adults could still enjoy. The mythological undertones of Father Baart and Lucifer are spine-chilling. I love this book, and it got me hooked on the series. I actually find them more enjoyable than Harry Potter. Happy reading!!

The Curse of The blue Figurine
I thought that this book was very and exiting. It takes place in 1951 in Massachusetts . The main character is johnny a boy that is 12.He wearsglasses likes to eat chocolate and to read books. Professor Childermss lives across the street from Jhonny. His friend professor childermass . He is old he also likes chess. He has a really bad temper. The book is told by Johnny. It is a little long it is 200 pages. If you like long mysteries you will probably like this book. Johnny finds a blue figure in his school churches basement. Then a boy that bullies him breaks his arm and Johnny thinks that the blue figure is cursed. One night in the church he meets a man that gives him a ring that is magic.A couple nights later a man appearsthe man says that he should come to a certain park at midnight and to bring the blue figure with him. Man also says that if he takes the ring of he dies. The professor gets worried so he takes Jonhhy to a doctor. The doctor puts Johnny to sleep and takes the ring off . Then the professor takes Johnny on a trip. I think boys and girls between nine and eleven who like mysteries should read this book.

Nevermind the Potter...,

...here comes Johnny Dixon. Although I can't help but notice the new cover depicts him as sort of a blonde version of Harry. I always liked the old Edward Gorey cover better. At any rate, 11 years after I read them (I'm now 24) Bellairs' first few books for children are priceless: scary, funny, and filled with lovely little historical details. Eventually, Bellairs' books became too formulaic, but I liked BLUE FIGURINE, as well as the follow-ups: THE MUMMY THE WILL, AND THE CRYPT, SPELL OF THE SORCERER'S SKULL, REVENGE OF THE WIZARD'S GHOST, and THE TROLLEY TO YESTERDAY. Great for kids too young for Stephen King.

When Johnny was going through his church basement, he found a box with a blue figurine. When he took it home with him, he didn't know he was making an evil spirit mad.
