Product Description

From the Manufacturer

Curse is a dramatic horror-action adventure based around the mysterious disappearance from a museum of a priceless Egyptian statuette 'The Eye Of Isis'. The statuette is protected by an ancient and evil curse that causes madness or violent death to all who come into contact with it. The curse manifests itself by raising diabolical mummified dead to exact violent revenge on the idol's desecraters. The main object of the game is to recover the missing statue and return it via train and then cargo steam-ship to the heart of the pyramid from where it was originally removed.

The user-controlled central hero, Darien Dane together with his close friend and assistant Verity, are plunged into an adrenaline pumping nightmare scenario of murder, mystery, horror, and evil. Starting with a search for the missing statuette they examine the sprawling interior of a museum environment. Here the curse's influence causes a variety of in-animate objects to come to life and attempt to kill them! They also encounter clues, characters, and complex puzzles in their adventure to discover the location of the sacred statue.

Upon recovery of the idol, the adventure leads from the museum and surrounding area to four more level environments:

  • A steam train rushing to the coast, then...
  • the action boards a huge cargo ship 'The Osiris',
  • a desert village leading to...
  • the actual labyrinthine pyramid where the 'The Eye Of Isis' statue must be returned.

Returning the statue ends the power of the curse and commits the angry Deities back to eternal sleep. This adrenaline-pumping horror adventure is also a frenetic race against time; throughout the journey the user risks being killed by the gory mummy hordes, their evil monster masters, and ultimately a final physical manifestation of the curse itself.

All the elements of gameplay are linked together via a compelling underlying storyline delivered via rewarding realtime 3D animated cut scenes using the powerful in-game engine. Here new characters are introduced and plot settings and game information conveyed. The credibility of the storyline is also enhanced through realtime interactions within the game, through meeting non-player characters and via written and audio messages being sent to the user as they play.

Features:

  • A fascinating combination of suspense, terror, and action.
  • Two playable characters: Darien Dane, a skilled and chivalrous engineer, and Victoria Sutton, his clairvoyant friend.
  • A complex scenario that will fully immerse you into two rich and appealing worlds: Victorian London and cursed ancient Egypt.
  • Supernatural Enemy: The curse can invade dead bodies and reanimate them to battle against you. You'll never know what to expect next from this supernatural and evil force!
  • Real-time animated cut-scenes, stunning visuals and highly intuitive game-play.
  • Innovative features include the intuitive control mode, the cinematic camera system, and the core-gameplay mechanic of surviving against an ethereal curse entity.

3.0 out of 5 stars So far, I'm NOT happy with this game at all..., November 8, 2003

This review is from: Curse: The Eye Of Isis (CD-ROM)
Hi fellow gamers. Well, I thought this might be an interesting game, so I bought it. I love horror stuff and keep hoping somebody will make a truly scary game. But, right off the bat, I discovered this is one of those games like Riddle of the Sphinx, or Mummy's Tomb, Shivers I and II, and so on. That's ok, if you like games with limited interaction with the character. But, I like action and the controls in this game are absolutely terrible! Using a keyboard on PC, you have to use the up and down and left and right arrow buttons to control movement. NO, you CAN'T change it to the W, S, A and D buttons! You control turning by using the mouse. So, you have to push your keyboard all the way to the left on your desk and try moving the character like that. For your other controls, you have to use the F-buttons to attack or do something, which means, if you're under attack, you have to stop and look down at the keyboard to find the right button! That's really poor control and ridiculous, especially in this day and age of technological gaming! It wouldn't be so bad if you could CHANGE the default controls, but they only let you change limited controls and you cannot change the movement buttons! Who in their right mind is going to use F keys for controls?! That's absurd! On the positive side, the graphics are interesting and the setting is eerie and gloomy, and the soundtrack adds to the eerie feeling. But the character is stiff and moves slowly. And, once you start, you're on your own. No hints or tips on what you should do next. Maybe that's ok for you. IF you LIKED Riddle of the Sphinx, you'll probably like this game. To me it's just too damned slow and the controls are much too cumbersome and tedious. I'll keep on trying to figure out what's going on and evaluate it further later. For now, it's another really disappointing game. I sure wish somebody could make a scary game that really WAS decent, maybe even scary! One with easy controls, or at least, adjustable controls. As far as value, I'd have to say that this game isn't worth the retail price. For you folks who like these kind of games, I'd still recommend waiting for a used game; one that's cheaper than the retail listing. If you're like me and you're looking for action, this definitely ISN'T it...

1.0 out of 5 stars NOT an adventure game!, November 24, 2003
By
This review is from: Curse: The Eye Of Isis (CD-ROM)
ADVENTURE gamers: do NOT buy this game! 1) It is a series of mazes; 2) 90% of the time you are either killing dead people or the living, and then rekilling them after they are dead; 3) in order to save at any point in the game, you must look around for a character (who moves around in the game), as there is no other way to save; 4) there are some inventory items; 5) it is a keyboard game (i.e., you have to use both hands to maneuver in the game; and, 6) if you insist upon getting this game, make sure you back off every time you kill somebody or you will end up not finishing the game! This game was a waste of my money.
