4.0 out of 5 stars Mommy, I'm scared...
This is dark electro-dub, very noisy, very dark. If you like Scorn, Main, Ice and (of course) earlier Techno Animal stuff, this will be right up your alley. Fans of REAL industrial music (i.e. Throbbing Gristle, Coil, Esplendor Geometrico (hope I spelled that right)) and the Invisible Records crowd should also dig this. A horror soundtrack for late night S&M,...

3.0 out of 5 stars Chilled out deathbeats
Yeah, ATR... great. The whole reason I bought this cd was for the Techno Animal additional production, and boy, does it show. While his own efforts of illbient are a little hard to swallow due to total bleakness, the hardcore asthetic livens things up to at least a few degress above absolute zero. Sounds somewhat like icecubes being ground up in an enormous machine that...

4.0 out of 5 stars Hmmm...., January 12, 2002

If I could I'd probably give it 3.5 stars but I'll round up because of the originality of the music. This is a collaboration between Alec Empire (of Atari Teenage Riot fame) and Techno Animal. If you have hear ATR let me tell you this is nothing like that. Or maybe it is. Imagine ATR making an ambient CD. None of the soothing sounds and music to put you to ease; Instead this mixes hard breaks and beats with odd noises here and there, while keeping a slow down tempo beat. If you listen to this while trying to sleep, you might get some nightmares. If you're interested in expanding your boundaries and like other solo Alec Empire stuff, this is the CD for you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Digital Hardcore done very well, February 4, 2003

Digital Hardcore is a funny genre: you either love it or hate it.

As a DHC enthusiast, I know it can be hit or miss sometimes, trying to find a great DHC CD. I started on ATR, moved on to Alec Empire and Bomb 20, and now I have found COTGV. This is a great album with some VERY awesome tracks. "Caucasian Deathmask" is the perfect opener and "Substance X" is a phenomenal track.

COTGV is great entry into the DHC universe and for those of you who like the musical stylings of ATR and Alec Empire but hate ATR's screeching female and Alec's vocals, COTGV has great music and no vocals.

While his own efforts of illbient are a little hard to swallow due to total bleakness, the hardcore asthetic livens things up to at least a few degress above absolute zero. Sounds somewhat like icecubes being ground up in an enormous machine that tears them apart, and somehow reassembles them, leading one to suspect that they have more icecubes somewhere in the machine. To wit, the best parts of the album arrive on Low-Tech predator, when the crunchy guitars of ATR combine with a decaying siren effect, producing something you might actually remember after popping out the disk.
