The Curse of being incredible, undiscovered talent..., July 16, 2005

It's true, 31knots are one of the best pure acts right now. This EP exclamates that understanding. I was a fan before hearing this EP, now I eagerly wait on edge for the slightest bit of news on their next release (which is unofficially slated for October).
"Welcome To Stop" is a behemoth of an opener. It starts off dirty, with just noise and distortion from their guitars, which leads to a melodic pulsing rhythm. Joe Hague's singing is more natural and more melodic than ever before on this EP. The moments with the monotonic plucking are unforgettable.
"The Corpse And The Carcass" is by far the best song 31knots have ever conceived. It's a song with 3 movements, all of which are powered by amazing melodies. The first two movements feature identical lyrics. The first movement features only keyboards, adding a piano to set up the second movement. The second movement is a bass heavy movement, which features only bass guitar and drum, ending with the lead guitar entering, seting up the third movement. The third movement features no vocals, it's got the same bass and drum melody from the second movement with Joe soloing on guitar. It's an amazing ending to a spectacular song. A song that should not be missed by any Indie Rock fan period.
"The Story Of Ivan Normal" is the most catchy and melodic track on this 4 song EP, especially when talking about the chorus. "Stop-stop running away from what is obvious (x2)/ No one ever said it was 'oh, so beautiful' (x2)" can say it all.
"Coward With Claws" is an interesting track. While still remaining a great track, it's the worst on this EP. It's also the most experimental. It's basic formula (with a brief change-up mid way) is a repeated guitar melody and beat that comes and goes either replaced by a violin shriek or an undeterminable sound, changing up for the chorus.
All in all, every song is an extremely worthy listen. And "The Corpse And The Carcass", while originally released last year, should be considered for best song of 2005. It definitely has my vote. I can't wait for their LP later this year.

This is as sweet as it gets. An absolutley amazing band. I just got the new CD in the mail today so we'll see if they can keep their standards high.

"Escape" was great and I was hoping they would build, November 3, 2005

Instead of building on "Escape", they have sunk into a lame groove of repetition. I am puzzled because they have potential but didn't use it here.
