5.0 out of 5 stars An encounter with history., October 22, 1999

One berimbau. One pandeiro. If you are used to to the complexities of modern capoeira music, you will be transported by the power and directness of the master. In this brief CD, Bimba goes through the rhythms of half a dozen capoeira games, instruments only, then has two extended tracks of vocals with choro. The focus is on the rhythm and the interplay between music and game. To me, it made recent recordings sound like Muzak.

This CD should be a part of any serious capoeirista's library because it records how the music of Capoeira de Regional was played by Mestre Bimba--the creator of Capoeira de Regional, and student of Mestre Pastinha--, himself. The toques on this CD are also simple enough for the beginner berimbau player to learn from. I, personally, would not enjoy actually playing capoeira to this CD, however, as only one track contains singing (however, I play primarily capoeira Angola, so perhaps this is more appropriate music for capoeira Regional). I look at this CD as an encyclopedia of traditional capoeira music.

5.0 out of 5 stars fascinating music from our collective inconscious, August 21, 2004
This review is from: Curso De Capoeira Regional (Audio CD)
this is cd is impossible to rate or to review .Its like trying to rate the sounds of the sea , or the sounds of the forest .
This music cames from the soul of the human race . The instrumental B side of this record must have to be in any collection of "what is the culture of the human being in planet earth".
