I have a stock trailer and there wasn't enough clearance if I wanted to put my truck tailgate down.The gate would hit the jackup I damaged my tailgate and decided then and there that wouldn"t happen again.I went on line and found the adaptable hitch extender manufactured by Curt.It really fills the bill for what I wanted. The only downside,and they mention it,is that you lose some effeciency with your pulling hitch. I'll live with it.Just watch my gross weight. Great price free shipping.Fast delivery. I bought this extension to get past the rear spare on my jeep, but it was so poorly made, I can only use if for the motorcycle carrier, not hitch mounted rack. The hole through the shank is seriously crooked, which tilts everything attached to it. Normally I'd just turn it 90° and drill new holes, but I don't have the means to drill through two solid inches of steel.... A real disappointment.

Not much to say other than everything was great. I read the other review about the holes not aligning and hesitated on getting this. After I could not find it at u-haul or pep-boys I ordered online and got it two days later. Fits my bike rack and hitch perfectly.

This product was used to extend a two-bike rack hitch out and over the spare tire of an Class C RV. It was very sturdy and we did not have any issues securing the extender which ensured no wobbling of the rack or bike as we traveled. We would highly recommend this product.

Item works fine. I too have a Jeep (A 2002 Liberty), and I needed this to get around my spare as well. I unfortunately bought one 2 inches longer than I needed, but it doesn't matter. I use it for a bike carrier and I needed to get past my spare tire. It's a little wobbly, but so is the carrier and it really doesn't matter to me; it's still attached very well and is very strong and can handle a little wobble. Perfect fit for 2 X 2 hitch (Also a Curt Manufacturing hitch). My only drawback is that it didn't come with a pin. I have to use my only pin to attach it to the vehicle, leaving me without a pin. Luckily my rack has a pin for it, a nut and bolt one, so I just leave it permanently attached to the carrier. If I wanted to use it for anything else though, I'd be without a pin.

UPDATE: I towed a 3000 lb Nifty lift with this thing on my Jeep. It supposedly has a tongue capacity of 300 lbs. so I must have seriously exceeded that. Still worked like a charm. I'm not recommending you do the same, but the extender is seriously quality. Highly recommend.

I bought a 2011 Dodge ram with the new tailgate style and I couldn't fold down the tailgate without hitting the jack. I bought the 8 in extender and the problem is solved.

I mean really, it's just a heavy metal tube, so there's not much to it.
But, it is made well, fits perfectly, and does the job.
If you need a hitch extender, this is a good choice.

The perfect extension for the fifth wheel camper. I needed just a few more inches to allow the bike rack to extend past the bumper-mounted spare tire. Solid construction with good welds like the other Curt products I use.

Having PRIME makes ordering heavy products like this a non-decision. We have already used behind our Jeep for a tool box I added. Will not need it for the Hitchpacker unless I want to put a bike behind the cooler.

This allows me to get my trailer hitch out past my lowered tailgate when slide-in camper is on the truck. Puts it out there far enough but not too long to be dangerous. does have a bit of slop but not noticeable with trailer weighted.
