Ten years ago I took a pottery course at the Ann Arbor potters guild..They needed ten or more people to purchase the Val Cushing handbook for the discounted price. It turns out to be the best pottery handbook I ever purchased, and I have quite a library on pottery. Now ten years later I still find myself refuring to the wealth of knowledge contained within. I'm not the brightest bulb in the pack, and some of the material is hard for me to understand..but there is plenty I do grasp and It has helped me greatly . I see the price has greatly increased, but if you can afford it.. buy it! 73 and still going strong,

This is an excellent resource packed with information . It contains enough information to make anyone think it is well worth the price! As a newbie to the Pottery making world I am excited by the wealth of information in this volume. Although some of the information is very technical , problably for a more advanced student, I am looking forward to learning through doing and growing in my skills. The book chapters are laid out well with clay bodies and raw materials being particularly helpful. There is even information on testing the absorbtion and C/B value. The different types of firing are also discussed at great length. THe chapter on glazes and glaze formations has many discussions on formulas and common colors. as well as a triaxial blend chart,The back of the book has glaze recipes for each temperature range. The front of the book has a bibliography of various books used in the writing of this book that can be used for furthur in depth study.
