Rick Ross is undoubtedly one of the most talked about rappers of the year. Whether it be his now infamous beef with 50 Cent and G-Unit, back and forth with Floyd Mayweather, his numerous collaborations with the top artists of the industry, becoming MTV's 5th hottest mc in the game, or his album Deeper Than Rap (which in my opinion is still the best album released this year). One thing is for sure, if you follow hip hop then the name Rick Ross should be familiar to you.


This time he's back with his crew, Triple C's, standing for Carol City Cartel but also meaning other things (such as the album title Custom Cars & Cycles). The crew consists of Gunplay, Torch, Young Breed, and Rick Ross. To get one thing out the way....GunPlay is pretty horrible as a rapper. To keep it consistent he's equivalent to the Tony Yayo of the group...he just cannot rap. Occasionally he may have a unique flow or verse or manage to push out a good verse but overall he's hard to listen to. Torch is a good rapper but he isn't anything different from a normal NY rapper. Young Breed is the budding star of the group and the one with the most talent and potential and manages to shine on this album. Rick Ross is himself, the boy can rap (ask the man who publicly cosigned his skills...RAKIM).

I know you're wondering, yeah yeah yeah how is the album though?

Triple C's delivers on their purpose of making high quality gangsta music. That is rapping about all the normal rap topics (females, stunting, flexing, hustling etc.) over good production with some of the hottest guest artists. If you are looking for something other than that then you must stop yourself. This is not DEEPER THAN RAP.

Given that, Triple C's manages to make an enjoyable, although flawed, album. Songs range from extremely great to pretty wack. Songs such as GO, TRICKN OFF, Erryday, YAMS, WHITE SAND, and CUSTOM CARS & CLIPS are flat out bangers. Other songs are flat out wack such as We Gettin It and surprisingly CHICKN TALKN which features Warren G & Mack 10. Decent efforts such as Break It Down ft. Bun B and Throw It In The Sky don't help or hurt the album.

The best moment of the album undoubtedly comes in DIAMONDS & MAYBACHS PT. 2 ft. Suede Royale. This sounds like it could've been on DEEPER THAN RAP or could serve as a sign of things to come on Rick Ross' Teflon Don. It's a masterpiece. Greatness continues with FINER THINGS ft. Masspike Miles and it makes you wonder why they didn't make songs in this vein to start with??? HUSTLA ft. Masspike Miles is another song that really captures the sound of Triple C's.


Notable omissions also hurt this album. After all why release videos for songs if they won't be on the album? That doesn't make sense to me. Songs such as ILLUSTRIOUS, ROADKILL, I SOLEMNLY SWEAR, and DUFFLE BAG are mysteriously missing from this release and all of them are worthy of being included (try to download those songs if you can). In fact if they were included instead of the average and wack songs then this release would have undoubtedly been one of the best releases of the year. As it stands though, it's just a good album.

Production is mostly handled by Schife but Drumma Boy, Cool & Dre, and The Olympicks also contribute. GAME, Young Jeezy, Bun B, Gucci Mane, Yo Gotti, Mack 10 and Warren G make appearances as well as the rest of the Maybach family.

Custom Cars and Cycles is an uneven album where the good outweighs the bad but the bad is noticeable. There are must hear songs on the album as well as some must not hear songs. Triple C's deliver lyrically (except GunPlay) and the production is ranges from good to legendary. The album is a rollercoaster with it's ups and downs but that's how group albums go. If you like Rick Ross' previous albums then you should definitely add this to your collection as a complement. People that are not really into Rick Ross, this album will do nothing to sway you. 3.5 stars.

CCC's can be referred to as your typical "gangsta/cocaine music" album but there's a big difference. The concept and lyrical content goes way over the heads of your average listener. Don't be surprised if years from now this album is revered as a classic hood album. I have to hand it to "The Cartel" for taking a chance and putting out an album that doesn't conform to current rap music trends but manages to reach beyond the ears of the listener and attempts to reach the mind and soul. An artist will always ridiculed for such secular blasphemy. It really is 'deeper than rap'.

I MUST SAY THAT I AM IMPRESSED , VERY IMPRESSED WITH THIS ALBUM. I CANT WAIT TA HEAR SOME MO MUZIK FROM THE CAMP.

Yeah this album is hella tight.... the only problem is alotta songs not on here, songs like illustrious, yacht club and others that they have made videos for... otherwise this stuff hot...! I dont beleive rick ross was a pusha but he sure do make some real good music...! buy this then look for tha songs that were used to advertise and buy them too. In my opinion its 5 stars but tha simple fact that they ommited 4-5 bangers from it juss detracts slightly from a very good album...

Custom Cars & Cycles is a classic!!! Miami's Boss is just the centerpiece to Triple's C's album with Gunplay,Torch, and Young Breed. This CD is loaded with hits. Mack 10 and Warren G killed it on Chickn Talkn. Bun B rock it on here, Jeezy and Triple C's went hard on Erryday, and Yams Pt.2 with Yogotti is that heat. Custom Cars & Cycles is just one more in a long line of hit albums that Ross has put out. Diamonds & Maybachs Pt. 2 is the smooth layed back touch on the album. The Boss puts out those hits while talking about the Miami free enterprise market in the 80's and 90's. They put out the hits hate it or love it you can't deny that.

I got the LP for 2 reasons: 1. I dig Rick Ross as an artist and 2. The song "Go". However the album is wack. I will not totally give up on the Triple C's but it seems as though they need to go back to the drawing board on this one. There are a few songs that jam, but for the most part, the album could have waited. The quality of lyrics are not there as expected. Trust and believe this is not a hater talking, this is a die hard supporter of music calling this for what it is, do not buy this album if you are looking for a classic, not happening.

I don't have that much respect for a correctional officer trying to rap. This is hot garbage.
