I have had this book for years, and periodically I misplace it and buy another. It was very helpful to me when I had two custom 45's built. Layne explains the features and benifits of the varios modifications. Besides the useful modifictions he shows you how to compleately disassemble and re-assemble the pistol. If you are looking at a used pistol or having one built you will become more educated and be able to spot things like "the front strap has been carved under the trigger guard." Then came along Kimber. A Kimber Eclipse Target II for me only required the addition of a S&A mag well and a trigger job to lighten it. It really is an excellent book for the Government Model lover.
