4.0 out of 5 stars nice bag, BUT..........
This is the first review I've written on here about anything, but I wanted anyone looking for a nice tool tote to know the good, and the BAD, about this one before plunking down 50 bucks. I got this 4 days ago, for Christmas, to use at work (I'm a plumber). First the good. The bag is really well made, and it seems to be quality stuff. The pockets are excellent, looks like...

3.0 out of 5 stars The Jury is still out.
I bought the CLC bucket organizer at the same time. So far I've taken a liking to the bucket. I was a little surprised that this had a somewhat soft bottom, which tends to make heavy items slip under the adjustable partition. I'm sure in time I will find a use for it.

The pockets are excellent, looks like they'd hold up a while. After always using toolboxes with lids, I decided I wanted to be more organized so I could save time hunting thru a box for loose tools. And it does that really well. Once organized, I can look down and see every tool I have, and quickly get whatever I need. The handle seems sturdy, and it has a tape measure clip which is convenient. Now the bad. In my mind, this bag, after I've used it a couple of days on the job, has a few flaws. Two are more minor, but one is major, and the reason I'm sending it back. Number one.....the handle is fixed and wont fold over out of the way. This limits how large of an item you can put in the tote and take it out easily. Number two.....I have to put my handsaw in the large main compartment, and it's always in the way when I reach for other tools, nicking my fingers. Number 3....and this is the MAJOR flaw.....as other reviewers have stated, the bottom is not rigid, it's just cloth. So if you have anything with any weight in it, the bottom sags, and makes it not sit straight if you set it on a stool or whatever, and makes the divider useless, the tools can go under it. This is the main reason I'm sending it back. Now, I did go just today and purchase one I think will work much better. It's the large Husky tote at Home Depot. It's only $40, has a folding handle, a pocket made into the side of it specifically made to slide a handsaw in (which will be really nice!)and most of all....it has a SOLID bottom and the divider is made to the bottom and sides so it cant move. It also has a LOT of pockets, and seems to address all the flaws in this one. Only time will tell of course, but it fixed the 3 problems I thought this tote has. All in all, this is a nice tote, I just don't think it's for professional use. At home it should be fine. But why spend $50 for one that's "fine", when you can spend $40 for one that's better? Sorry for the long review, but maybe it will help someone else decide when they're looking for a nice large tote.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Storage for Neurotic Organizer!, December 10, 2008

This review is from: Custom LeatherCraft 1579 20-Inch Open-Top Soft Sided Tool Box (Tools & Home Improvement)
I'm a General Contractor who personally still does most of the trades on each project. I have a Utility truck loaded up with all of the power tools, but I also use use an assortment of tool bags and boxes to organize the many hand tools and parts that I bring into a house for the various phases of a remodel.

Right now, I am using this 1579 for an Electrical bag. It is big, but it holds almost all of my electrical tools along with many of the small cylindrical containers filled with small electrical parts.

I'm getting ready to set up another one with a large assortment of carpentry hand tools and parts that I use for most remodeling tasks. I would set up another for plumbing stuff, but right now I'm happy with a Klien bucket organizer for that.

I have a lot of tool boxes and bags that I have accumulated over the years (including a Veto XL and a Veto OT XXL), but if I could only keep one, it would be this 1579.

P.S. I love the Veto bags for their quality, but I really prefer the layout of the CLC 1579 much, much more. I wish that Veto would copy the layout of the CLC or that CLC would come out with an "Extreme" version of the 1579 - but then it would be as heavy as the Veto bags.

I'm a post production engineer in Burbank, CA. In our line of work we have to be an electrician, IT tech, carpenter, audio and video engineer all wrapped in one. I would say I'm packing about a hundred tools in this carrier. Miscellaneous crimpers, socket drivers, wire strippers, screwdrivers, a DeWalt electric driver w/ about a hundred various bits in the provided parts bin, socket and driver bits in a Plano bin, spare DeWalt battery, mirror, tape measure, utility knife, 4 pliers, 4 wire cutters, cable cutter, Channellocks, Allen, Torx and metric key sets, two multimeters and a cable tester, torpedo level, two scissors, mini drivers, head lamp, flashlight, ball pein hammer, Fox and Hound kit, Elco depinner, Molex depinner, trompeter tool, two adjustable wrenches and a soldering iron and stand, anti-static solder mat, coax stripper and I still have room for a couple of more things.

It's so much handier that a tool bucket for these types of items. I still use a tool bucket for claw hammers, saws, pry bars, etc.

And since I do a lot of the same stuff at home I bought a second one.

Highly recommend. Nuff said.

Nice bag to replace my husband's round bucket bag. This is large enough to carry around the tools he uses most and has easy open access to them all. Our plumber had a bag similiar to this one, just a bit smaller. My husband liked it, so thought I'd get him one - just a bigger size.

my best carrier system of all the boxes and carts i've used over the years. actually, i've got the 14" version, but the 20"is nearly identical. light/tough; carrier handle easy on the hand; shoulder strap self-orients on swivel hardware, which is very important when you reach for the strap to swing it up on your shoulder: no frustrations with twisted straps! it would be 5 star if: handle folded over for enhanced access; shoulder pad was round and same type foam as handle pad; grey or other light color inside for better visibility; maybe a pouch sized/oriented just for easy/frequent access for a small cordless drill. clc are you paying attention? thanks!

The tool box appears to be well constructed. It has a nice variety of pocket sizes and types. I like the adjustable divider. The shoulder strap is sturdy. Very pleased with it.

Nothing wrong with the product, I just got something that was just little too big for the average everyday handyman, maybe

I should have gotten one size smaller.
