5.0 out of 5 stars Finally, a book that explains how I can put content marketing to work
I have been hearing that content is king for years, but now I understand how that applies in a world where buyers hate all the advertising that bombards them. That explains why our traditional marketing efforts don't work anymore and why we need a new content marketig approach.
My biggest aha from the book is that moving to an effective content marketing strategy...

1.0 out of 5 stars Not worth the price
I have read a number of books about websites and content and frankly this book is not that great. In my opinion it is a complete waste of money. The author basically just talks about what other websites have done and that is it.

If you're looking for a book about content for websites' look elsewhere. I know there are a lot of gleeming reviews for this book,...

This review is from: Get Content. Get Customers. How to use content marketing to deliver relevant, valuable, and compelling information that turns prospects into buyers (Hardcover)
I have been hearing that content is king for years, but now I understand how that applies in a world where buyers hate all the advertising that bombards them. That explains why our traditional marketing efforts don't work anymore and why we need a new content marketig approach.
My biggest aha from the book is that moving to an effective content marketing strategy means changing the way you think--but may be even less expensive than old-fashioned advertising and marketing.
Get Content. Get Customers. shows how and why changes in old-line media, buyer behavior, and technology have empowered--and required--smart marketers to "think like publishers" as the authors put it. That means understanding what problems and solutions are absolutely critical to your customers and providing rich content that provides meaningful answer to those challenges.
I loved the case studies which detail how content marketing has paid off on the bottom-line from a one person kitchen designer to Best Buy, a multi-billion dollar seller of kitchen appliances and high-end electronics. Every case study offers ideas that even small companies can put into practice.
Finally, the book provides a step by step illustration of how a hypothetical company can roll out a content marketing strategy that will really pay off.

4.0 out of 5 stars Content Marketing works!, June 19, 2008
This review is from: Get Content. Get Customers. How to use content marketing to deliver relevant, valuable, and compelling information that turns prospects into buyers (Hardcover)
We had the opportunity to watch firsthand how content marketing benefitted our organization, The Greater Naples Chamber of Commerce. The book's co-author, Newt Barrett, worked with us to make significant improvements in our print and online publications. The book does a great job of telling our story and that of many organizations who are putting content marketing to work successfully.

We now have a monthly magazine, Business Currents that generates great readership and great revenue--3X as much as our old Chamber publication. Our website is getting 6X as many visitors as it did before its transformation into a content-rich online home for The Chamber.

Just as the book describes, everything came down to understanding what issues are most important to our target audience--the regional business community--and delivering relevant and valuable content consistently, month in and month out. Content marketing has benefitted our members, our community, and our organization. Content marketing really works. Our organization is living proof.

Ambal Balakrishnan (Silicon Valley, CA) - See all my reviews
How do marketers provide compelling content that customers and prospects actually want to consume? How to combine old and new marketing in innovative and useful ways? How to build on going customer relationships? How to attract prospects and retain customers? Joe Pulizzi & Newt Barrett answer these questions and share their insights in "Get Content. Get Customers.".

Joe Pulizzi & Newt Barrett are thought leaders & evangelists for content marketing. Their book "Get Content. Get Customers." has been called THE handbook for content marketing. It helps teach businesses why and how to create compelling content to grow their businesses. "Get Content. Get Customers." is a value packed and practical guide for anybody who creates or markets any kind of content in this digital era. The book guides you on how to create and execute a content marketing strategy for your business.

Joe Pulizzi & Newt Barrett have taken a case study approach to convey their ideas on content marketing. They don't just preach - instead they show with concrete examples of how large and small companies are leveraging the power of content to drive their businesses. They highlight six reasons why businesses are making the change towards content marketing and dedicate an entire chapter on how to select the content type that is a best match for your strategy.

While the book discusses any type of content, there are many ideas that are directly applicable to writing and marketing whitepapers or eBooks:

* What informational need of the buyer are you trying to fulfill?
* Analyze customers' informational needs through phone conversations, in-person meetings, or email surveys
* Determine the goal behind producing any content
* Have a thorough understanding of your customer and what is most important to them. Create material that will intrinsically be valuable to your customers.
* Deliver to a targeted set of audience
* Have a clear call-to-action. What do you want your customer to do?
* What is the ROO (Return on Objective)? Does your written material lead to increased sales or increased readership?

Marketing rules have changed. Pick up "Get Content. Get Customers." and learn the new marketing game. Discover specific methods you can start to use to implement your content strategy today. Become a 'content marketer' and grow your business.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good but cursory overview for SMBs and B2C, February 2, 2009
This review is from: Get Content. Get Customers. How to use content marketing to deliver relevant, valuable, and compelling information that turns prospects into buyers (Hardcover)
Small and midsized businesses and business-to-business marketers who haven't practiced content marketing will get the most benefit from this book, especially the ideas presented in the case studies. However, the brief and high-level overview presented by this material means readers will want to seek other books that present more detailed information about the many techniques and publication types discussed. In addition, the book won't provide any new insights for technology marketers or most business-to-business marketers, who have always had to provide substantial and in-depth information to attract prospects, make sales, and retain customer loyalty.

This review is from: Get Content. Get Customers. How to use content marketing to deliver relevant, valuable, and compelling information that turns prospects into buyers (Hardcover)
This book is a must-have for traditional marketers looking to get more value from their marketing efforts, contemporary marketers in pursuit of successful execution of new mktg applications like Social Media Marketing, and the SMART marketers who are integrating both for their own organizations and/or clients. The concept is highly relevant, presented well and uses great case studies. I have yet to put my copy down.

5.0 out of 5 stars Get Book, June 13, 2008
This review is from: Get Content. Get Customers. How to use content marketing to deliver relevant, valuable, and compelling information that turns prospects into buyers (Hardcover)
Get Content Get Customers is one of the first books to offer a combination of articulate and intelligent ideas on why you should use content to market in the Post Advertising Age along with real world examples of how to do it. There are a surprising number of companies that are already using content to engage with customers and this book has unearthed a wide range of different companies with different needs all united by using content to reach customers and prospects. For those marketers who are timidly wondering whether they can switch their dwindling ad budgets into more engaging and more efficient channels, prevaricate no more. The time is now and the proof is here - I really found it to be a compelling bible to doing business through the medium of narrative marketing and story-telling.
