5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent SAP MM book - You must buy
Earlier I have read few other books on SAP MM, but all those books were for more end users. This book is really good reference book for SAP consultant, super users and for business process owners.

Basic concepts are well explained but the book lacks the DESIRE to give you a deep understanding with industry best practices and real life applications. Very factual and dry descriptions, LOTS of repetions, but it doesn't seem to want to go beyond the surface. Many times I felt that the auther just tries to fill pages with little material and large fonts. Comparing this book to, say, "Implementing SAP ERP Sales & Distribution" by Glynn C. Williams (another one of my recent reads), the difference is night and day. I am somewhat dissappointed, this book is not the best value. All that being said, I have to admit, I learned a lot from it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good for Consultants, & Configuration, but lacks some specific MM/Demand Planning info, June 6, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Customizing Materials Management with SAP ERP Operations (Hardcover)
First, the introduction to MM was very helpful and I learned much about the basic materials management set up in SAP. However, I had expected to learn more about the MM process rather than other Supply Chain processes.

Second,I felt the book was heavy on invoicing and procurement process rather than materials related process. I am not an SAP consultant, but a materials manager who will be implementing and supporting SAP MM in the near future.

Third, I would have liked to see more on forecasting with SAP and how to link hard and soft demand to that forecast to drive down to a component level in manufacturing. I also expected to learn more on lead time management, safety stock calculations and min/max planning in SAP. I also needed to understand how SAP manages expensed materials.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent SAP MM book - You must buy, February 13, 2010
This review is from: Customizing Materials Management with SAP ERP Operations (Hardcover)
Earlier I have read few other books on SAP MM, but all those books were for more end users. This book is really good reference book for SAP consultant, super users and for business process owners.
The most interested thing is author has explained the Business Process scenario and then process steps (how to run the process in SAP) and later on the configuration for each process.
I really got now better understanding and knowledge of pricing procedure and automatic account determination, specially the way diagrams are made it directly gets into the head and it makes a clear image about all these complicated areas of SAP MM.
I would recommend all the readers to buy this book and also recommend this book.
If we all readers community will buy and promote this kind of nice book, than only authers will get confidence and write more books.
Really appriciate the efforts.

5.0 out of 5 stars customizing materials management by SAP ERP operations, November 13, 2009
This review is from: Customizing Materials Management with SAP ERP Operations (Hardcover)
I bought this book recently and found it to be very informative. I am basically a SAP Consultant wanted to expand my functional base in the complete Supply Chain Solutions. I went through this book, understood the BPPs, customized the required settings and could successflly execute the transactions.

The knowledge gained out of this book will definitely help me to explore more opportunities in the supply chain industry requirements esp. where there is a demand for a Consultant having multiple skill sets.

5.0 out of 5 stars Finally got the great Reference Book, October 23, 2009

Customizing Materials Management with SAP ERP Operations

I have been searching for a book which I can use as a reference book during my implementations. Finally much needed book has been launched. I have read the complete book, and found it very easy to understand.

This book has started with basics which is explaining the client, system architecture and landscape which is very important aspect for each consultant involved in SAP.
Various Purchasing Organization scenarios such as cross plant purchasing organization, reference purchasing organization are tedious for consultants to understand and remember, but this author has explained this with the figures and which in turns makes it easy to understand and remember.(Refer Page 31 to 38)
I liked the way Master Data (Vendor and Material) is explained in this book, it gives clear understand on the necessity and use of Views and Organizational levels such as client, company code, plant etc.
When I read page number 95 onwards I was amazed the way Item Category is explained, it is really excellent.
Then I moved on to the procurement processes and the best thing about this book is, each business process has been explained in terms of business scenario, use and then the process steps (how transactions should be processes) and then the complete configuration steps with menu path. This is what everyone involved in SAP requires.
The excellent part of this book is, you just need to spend few minutes in each of the figures and you will have clear understanding of the business process flow, for ex, page number 133 (Figure 4-39) just have a look of this figure and you will have clear understanding of SAP Subcontract scenario. Excellent figures.....
Very Important part of this book is it has explained the account posting in each of the scenario and in a very easy way, so even if you do not know much in finance still you can understand all the GL Account postings in various scenarios.
Pricing Procedure Figure 8.23 Page 313 is an extra ordinary effort by the author; it gives crystal clear understanding on how the price determination works in SAP. Similarly another complicated area Automatic Account Determination is explained in a very simple way, just refer Page number 335 Fig-8.46.
Message Determination configuration, version management configuration and release strategy configuration are another areas which has been described step by step and really very helpful for consultants.
I am really benefited a lot after buying this book, it is worth buying immediately.

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding SAP MM Book, October 29, 2009
This review is from: Customizing Materials Management with SAP ERP Operations (Hardcover)
[ASIN:1592292801 Customizing Materials Management with SAP ERP Operations]

This is what I was searching from a long time, finally I got it...
This book is complete reference book for all the consultants involved in SAP implementations. I would also recommend SAP Super Users/End Users to buy this book and this book will help you to become SAP Functional Consultant.

The best part of this book is it covers the various business processes around supply chain. I am very much impressed with the Figures. If one can just spend few minutes in each of the business process figures, he/she will have clear understanding of the business scenario.

This book you can always keep with you and refer it as and when needed in your projects.

After reading this book now I have got good understanding of Finance postings and now onwards I will not be dependent on SAP FICO consultants for MM-FI integrations.

Outstanding book and really amazing efforts by author and SAP Press....
