2009 two CD set containing a trio of albums from the above-average Scottish Funk band: Cut The Cake (1975), Soul Searching (1976) and Benny & Us (1977). Cut The Cake went Top Ten in both the US and UK, reaching # 4 in the US (and going Gold).Soul Searching consolidated this success, going platinum in the US and featuring more classics. In 1977, producer Arif Mardin took the band to Miami to record a special album of covers with Soul legend Ben E. King, original lead singer of The Drifters and best known for his own hits 'Stand By Me' and 'Spanish Harlem'. Amongst the many highlights on Benny & Us is the unique reading of John Lennon's 'Imagine'. Edsel.

Three of my favorite AWB albums on 2 discs. No disapointment here. I LOVED IT!!!
I'm also buying a set of their earlier discs. It's just too convienient.

The Average White Band was one of the funkiest bands of the last thirty some years. Although they were from another country, they were just as soulful as any other soul group we had here in the states. These three lps demonstrate just that. Tracks such as "School Boy Crush, Cut The Cake, and Love Of Your Own" are three of those 70's classics that stand out even to this day. This disc is definitely worth having in your collection, especially the one with Mr. Benny King because that one was out of print for a longtime.
