5.0 out of 5 stars A classic!, April 22, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Cut (Audio CD)
This album contains the LONG kick ass version of Twilight Zone (When The Bullet Hits The Bone), which is, in my opinion, the greatest rock song of all time. While this album is short, this song MAKES the album. The Devil Made Me Do It, which is one of their most well-known songs, is silly, but enjoyable. Baby Dynamite is enjoyable, but very slow and not what one would call a rock song. The same with Future. Last Of The Mohicans is a catchy lightweight rocker. Lost And Found and Chargin' Up My Batteries are both great songs. Secrets is a slow, bluesy song. While the album could be longer, and there ARE better GE albums out there (Bloody Buccaneers!!), this is a classic and a good place to start with this band that's been around for 43 years and still kickin'.

4.0 out of 5 stars In Which Golden Earring Meets MTV, October 27, 2005
This review is from: Cut (Audio CD)
Golden Earring, the talented Dutch foursome of long duration (they've basically had the same configuration for 40 years now, since 1965) has an amazing body of work. Many of their finest moments occurred throughout the 70s and 80s, and this period culminated with 1982's "Cut."

This well-written, well-played, accessible album made the Earring MTV favorites with the taut video for "Twilight Zone," whose film noirish atmosphere provided an effective context for the driving rhythms and urgent vocals of "Zone."

Hopefully this album will inspire new fans to explore the deep and pleasurable Earring catalog, perhaps starting with 1973's "Moontan" and its smash radio hit "Radar Love," and hopefully continuing into such landmark albums as "Switch" (1974), "To The Hilt" (1975) and "Grab It For A Second" (1978).

"Cut" will certainly remind longtime listeners why they took a shine to the Earring in the first place.

Happy listening!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Bullet Really Hit the Bone, March 8, 2010

This review is from: Cut (Audio CD)
I've been a casual fan of Golden Earring since "Radar Love" was a hit, but lately I've been re-discovering them. Every song on "Cut" is a real gem. "Twilight Zone" is a great rocker, but as good as it is, it isn't the best track. My personal favorite is "Last of the Mohicans" (Dick, it's gotta good beat and ya can dance to it I give it a 95). I really had no idea these guys were as talented as they show on every album they've ever recorded. as far as I'm concerned these amazing musicians were to the Netherlands and Europe what the Beatles were to Britain. You can't go wrong purchasing this (or any other) album by Golden Earring.

After losing this album in a devorce, actually my complete collection, 26 years ago, I found it at Amazon. I am very impressed with their service. Sure it isn't vinyl, but just like my new wife, it is class.

This album was in full swing back when MTV was great.Being a teenager albumsfrom every group were either bad or good. This one, although short on tracks is a delight to the ear.I've been a fan for years and they continue to produce good music.I visit their web site at WWW.GOLDEN EARRING.COM just to see what they're up to.Although TWILIGHT ZONE is in no way shape or form RADAR LOVE it still will be the song from the eighties as RADAR LOVE was for the seventies.

5.0 out of 5 stars A classic, October 11, 2004
This review is from: Cut (Audio CD)
I bought this album for Twilight Zone, a song I've loved since I was a toddler. This was my first real CD purchase and I listened to it for quite a long time before purchasing Moontan and others. Cut, does of course, contain the near 8 minute version of their late 1982-early 1983 hit Twilight Zone. It also contains some other enjoyable classics suchbas Future and Lost And Found. There's also Last Of The Mohicans, which sounds a lot like their vinyl b-side to Twilight Zone, King Dark. The Devil Made Me Do It is another of their classics and was featured in two movies in the US: Frankie And Johnnie with Al Pacino and Michelle Pheiffer as well as Best Of The Best. It worked as an introduction album for me, and it might for you as well. As always, I must recommend buying the Bloody Buccaneers/Face It combo, as well as the two disc Last Blast Of The Century.
