2.0 out of 5 stars Another good game polluted with IAPS! December 28, 2014

The app includes In App Purchases. What else can you expect from a big software house producing game apps? I have a unique idea for marketing games, sell them at a fair price to get a good return on your investment and stop all of the IAP garbage that tempts children to purchase items within the game. That way the parent knows the investment up front and it feels like a more honest deal! The app does play with the WIFI turned off so save yourself some money and turn on the airplane mode and the parental controls and play the app. Double the protection!

The app contains Amazon InApp Billing. Top that off with Amazon Insights, Flurry Analytics and MixPanel. These analytics programs are designed to track what you are doing within the app. They track your keystrokes, game position and even the swipes of your finger. They monitor your use of social networks and how much you share the app with friends. They are there to monetize the game for the developer. They are there to help the developer optimize the game's money making possibilities. Data is used to send push notifications to the app users.

The shopping cart on the main app page is a dead giveaway. Get hints, super powers, value packs or unlock Future Levels. Prices range from $0.99 to $29.99.

The app itself is just classic Cut the Rope games. It is cute and the graphics are good but if you have played on Cut the Rope game you have been there and done almost all of this before.

* Read phone status and identity
* Modify or delete the contents of your USB storage
* Full network access
* View network connections
* View WIFI connections

The app installed 47.01MB into my device memory. I had to manually move it to my SD card and it left 5.30MB in my device memory and it moved 48.88MB onto my SD card memory.

Upon opening, it asks to verify my age with a scroll wheel... that starts at age 99. Uh - LOL! Right, like anyone really is going to spend the time scrolling from 99 to find their age... how sly.

Infinite hints: $10.99 (!)
Infinite Telekinesis: $24.99 (!!)
Value-Pack o' Stuff: $29.99 (!!!)
And of course, the final extra stage (The Future) can be unlocked for .99 cents... or get three star completion on EVERY level. Now there is a challenge and a half without paying any other money.

That's just a selection of what is in there - there are far smaller packages ranging from 2 bucks up to meet your fiscal limits (hah). What kills me in this particular game is the final set of levels. It seem pretty obvious it is skewed towards you just paying the extra .99 cents, the same price as CtR: TIME TRAVEL itself.

I would think it would be interesting to research a Marketing thesis on how In-App Purchasing has become such a prevalent model in premium games. Personally, I think it's our fault with our eager shelling out for DLC with consoles games like the PS3... IAP is just takes the DLC concept and breaks it into small bits, available the moment we purchase the game.

Permissions are okay - it's scaled for Phone use (Portrait only orientation), so it has the Read Device State (that is the actual syntax permission in spite of Android listing it together as Device State & ID) to pause the game when a call comes in. Does run OFFLINE. The code has Mixpanel and Flurry Analytics (and Amazon's own Insights with GameCircle), and the Verify Age thing at the beginning is very likely due to Mixpanel's real-time analytic reporting (remember, gathering non-anonymous data on minors under the age 13 is a no-no).

I love the new wave of levels and the added Challenge of feeding to little monsters. Graphics are good, cute music that doesn't grate on the nerves, and an adorable character. Kudos to Zepto Lab for another great game.

I just can't get enough "Cut the Rope". I bought it last night and stayed up getting all my stars on all levels...Once they add more levels this will be as great as the first 2 "Cut the Rope" titles.
