I have never written a review before because I have not felt strongly enough about something to go to the trouble. Maggie Rose is amazing! Her music covers the range from soulful, bluesy, rock, pop...all done with a blend of country. I love many of the new country artists that are writing their own music and bringing new ideas to country. Of all the new artists, Maggie Rose is by far my favorite. I listen to a lot of music and I just can't stop playing this. Great lyrics, beautiful voice, great feel to the whole collection of music on this CD. I can't wait to see where her career goes. Count me as her number one fan!

I have a medium sized country music collection, about 50 CDs or so.

If I had to take one with to a desert island, "Cut To Impress" would be my choice, it is THAT good.

I had never heard of Maggie Rose b4 until seeing a video of her on public television performing in some small venue with select group of people. Her choices of songs were fantastic and her voice simply and always in "Wow" factor. I googled her name and found only one CD by her--which I ordered immediately. I can't wait for her to produce another....would love to see her in concert some day.

Maggie Rose's debut album has something for all moods: I love each song, the foot stomping, hand-clapping Goodbye Monday, the spooky Preacher's Daughter and Looking Back Now and the sweetly sad but hopeful Better.

Newcomer Maggie Rose (born Margaret Durante) has the looks and chops to run with country's estrogen elite. What differentiates her is the uncanny ability to deliver a song. On her impressive 10 track debut, "Cut To Impress," she sings about murder and rape as easily as she belts out a girl power anthem.
Looking Back Now is so catchy and fluid, it is understandable how a song dealing with execution ("Sodium thiopental drips") could debut high on the charts. Her soulful voice is both melancholy and sassy at once.
The sexy single I Ain't Your Mama and the far more serious Preacher's Daughter are equally impactful. Sonically, the lean 35 minutes runs the gamut from bluesy R&B to contemporary country. Her move to Nashville marked a turning point in her career. She cut her hair, chose a new moniker and began working with producer James Stroud. The songs became unapologetic and honest. In fact, the album is 20% murder related. Stroud gives the album its dark, muscle shoals vibe.
Thematically, the material exudes confidence and maturity but touches on vulnerability that young women can relate to. Rose employs a few talented female band members with the goal of providing an atmosphere of sisterhood in her live show that young girls can look up to. The instrumentation ranges from heavy electric guitar and drums to the mellow finesse of a Resonator and a haunting pedal steel. Rose said, "I'll always be Margaret Durante but I've become more comfortable being candid with my fans and I decided I want to be known as Maggie Rose." Whatever she wants to be called, the music speaks for itself.

Maggie shows us the sassy side of country; solid country songs mixed with cross genre sounds. Those that know. "I ain't your mamma" will find an artist who knows how to blend impressive. ballads with
great medium and up tempo songs. She brings out the best in her music, not always seen in this age of enveloped pushed music. Thankfully Maggie knows where she belongs.

I saw Maggie Rose live at the Country Throwdoen tour and she was my favorite act. She sounds just as good on this. Listen for "I know better now" and "better". She doesn't sound like anyone else out there.

she's amazing--saw her live at riverfront in nashville during the cma fest and she is the real deal--had never heard of her before this year which is unfortunate-she has a solid voice and different sound, some of her songs tell a story reminiscent of reba (like lights went out in georgia). she has a touch of angry woman here and there too which is even more appealing--can't wait to catch her live again
