Editorial Reviews

Review

“Whether you’ve dedicated an entire room in your house to “crafting” or break out in hives at the mere mention of gimp, it’s hard to deny the weirdly winsome appeal of Aranzi Aronzo’s DIY books. The latest–Cute Dolls and Fun Dolls–offer over 120 pages of patterns and step-by-step instructions for making three-dimensional versions of your favorite Aranzi friends. Both books earn high marks for presentation. The instructions are complemented by clear illustrations demonstrating how to assemble the dolls, while the paperback binding and 8″x 10″size make it easy for would-be seamstresses to photocopy patterns . . . . But it’s this mischievous, poking-fun-at-the-grownups tone that makes Aranzi Aronzo books such a welcome addition to the hobby aisle at your local Borders, and a perfect gift for the crafty friend who’s grown weary of making the holiday centerpieces and Halloween costumes in Martha Stewart Living and Better Homes and Gardens. –Katherine Dacey-Tsuei, popcultureshock.com

“I therefore give The Cute Book my highest recommendation: It’s a craft book that really works. Unlike, say, Martha Stewart, the Aranzi Aronzo people have come up with patterns that look good even when ordinary people make them.” - Manga Blog

“Most of the patterns fall in the “Oh, how cute” category, but there are several with guy appeal.
Get this book! Kids, teens, and adults will all want to borrow it.”- The yayayas

“It seems like a bit of a bold move to call something ‘The Cute Book’ because you better be sure you can deliver. Luckily Aranzi Aronzo is in the business of delivering on cute.” - http://www.Thimble.ca

About the Author

Aranzi Aronzo claims to be a Mexican-Japanese man and Norwegian Vietnamese-Indian man working at securities firms and playing the tambourine full time. All we really know about them however, is that they are actually two sisters who create mischief and fun through easy and fun crafts.

4.0 out of 5 stars Similar designs January 31, 2008
Format:Paperback
I purchased the Cute Book by the same authors and loved it, so I purchased this book as well. The dolls in this book are identical to the Cute Book, except they are larger and more three dimensional. There are only two new characters, penguins and a smaller sprite. If you don't already have the Cute Book, this is a great one to get. If you have the Cute Book, you may not want Cute Dolls. You would probably be better off enlarging the patterns like the Cute Book suggests in the begining, because that is what Cute Dolls ended up doing. If you want new designs, definately get Fun Dolls instead.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Cute Book super-sized March 23, 2008
Format:Paperback
In "The Cute Book", readers were treated to patterns for making small felt versions of many of the Aranzi Aronzo characters (if you aren't familiar with the Aranzi Aronzo characters, check out the Aronzo website, '[...] - they're sort of like the Sanrio/Hello Kitty characters, only with more personality). "Cute Dolls" is another book of patterns for making Aronzo character dolls (18 patterns in total), but this time, the patterns are for full sized (8 - 12 inch) dolls, most of which are made from jersey cloth (t-shirt fabric).

As with "The Cute Book", the patterns are very easy to follow. The instructions are fully illustrated, making it so that you don't even need to read the words in order to make these dolls. The book is beautifully presented, with colour photographs throughout and the captions on each of the pictures are hilarious (for example "Make us cute or we'll be angry!").

This is the second book in the Aranzi Aronzo "Let's Make Cute Stuff" series. People who enjoy this book should also consider purchasing the other books in this series: "The Cute Book", "Fun Dolls" and "Cute Stuff".

5.0 out of 5 stars Simple projects for adorable dolls January 2, 2008
Format:Paperback
I discovered this book by accident while browsing and bought it on impulse, and I'm so glad I did. The dolls are all cute and simple to make, with easy-to-follow instructions, including illustrations to show you what each step looks like. The projects are narrated by the first two dolls in the book, White and Brown Bunnies. White Bunny isn't so good at crafts, so Brown Bunny shows her how it's done. Absolutely adorable, and now all of the Aranzi Aronzo books are on my wishlist.

Format:Paperback
This book is better than I expected. It has so many craft toy ideas - all that are easily achievable even if you are a beginner. The dolls/animals are so cute and I will be kept very busy making them all. I really recommend this book as it is perfect for those wanting ideas and patterns for kids toys.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cute, cute, cute Dolls!!! June 4, 2008
Format:Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
This is a fabulous book for making cute two-dimensional dolls! Since the recommended fabric for these dolls is jersey knit- I use old t-shirts to make them! Recycling and crafting all in one! Most of the patterns in this book are recommended to enlarge on a photocopier- or you can make smaller versions without enlarging. These dolls are great to hand sew- making it a great little craft for all ages!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very cool dolls. Easy to make. June 15, 2008

Format:Paperback
This is the first doll book I've been interested in. The instructions are funny, simple and easy to follow. I've made the spacey bear and the panda and both are just adorable. Planning on making them all! I wish the full size patterns were included (you have to use a copy machine to enlarge some of them). Happy crafting.
