The high point of young adult literature!,

The title and plot (eighth-grader makes pom-pon squad, gets basketball star boyfriend) may seem frivolous, but this is a great book. There's just the right mix of everyday situations to relate to and interesting weirdness to laugh about, touching scenes and funny scenes. Still worth the occasional reread long past your junior high years.
